I can think of several factors, then maybe you can think of some more.

I self-published it, then after a month I metered it behind paywall.

Also, I published it initially without ANY photo, because I was still researching copyright status of postage stamps, maxicards, etc.

The tags and subjects are not popular, on Medium and the rest of the Internet: stamp collecting, philately, maximaphily.
