PHOTO-A-DAY CHALLENGE
Reunion Before Christmas
Week 72 of the photographic documentary of my daily life
This week has been filled with anticipation, hope, and excitement. My husband and I had been counting down the days since I left. Our countdown was coming to day zero this week.
In the meantime I was watching sunsets, jumping out of planes, and just hanging out in my new one-bedroom studio.
The sky was on fire.
After work today we sat by the tree on the landing area and had a beer or two together. It was good catching up with some friends and of course, watching the sun paint the sky during sunset

Today I was manifested as a camera flyer again. Being a skydiving instructor who can do all — take pictures of a tandem pair in freefall, do tandems yourself, and train students — I get placed wherever needed.
I haven’t actually been taking pictures with my big stills camera in freefall since I left Thailand in February 2020. Most places only use GoPros. They’re small and make just as good photos.
But this place has its rules and so I mounted my DSLR camera back on my helmet. It’s a few kilos extra on my head and you should be aware of the size of it.
Here’s the result. An exit shot taken with a tongue switch while freefallin’…

And now I got two pictures for you because in one shot I couldn't fit in the whole room.
This is my home. It’s very basic. But I got all I need. There’s the bed, as rock-solid as all beds in Thailand are. There’s a cupboard with one door open because of the extreme humidity here. My multi-use sarong is hanging over one side of it.
On top of the cupboard is my travel backpack with the paddleboard in it.
Then there’s my photo corner with two tiny succulents I purchased on a nearby market.
Sunscreen, after lotion, sunglasses, another lens for my camera, and the speakers in the top corner.
And in the picture below you can see the other side of the room including my working corner. I love having my workspace right in front of a big window. It brings me lots of light and gives me inspiration.

This is the small market downstairs where I often eat dinner. There are around 12 food stalls, tables in the middle and it opens around 5 pm. It looks abandoned right now because it is Sunday and closed today.
On the right, you can see some of the flats like the one I’m staying in. The complex of flats surrounds the market in a u-shape.

Birds in the morning sun. The picture was taken while lying in bed.
Yes, life is beautiful.

Blooming cherry blossoms in a Japanese-themed section of a shopping mall.
I wrote an article about this very unique shopping center in case you want to see some more pictures and hear the story behind it.

And guess what? As my husband said, these three weeks have gone past so quickly. Our countdown reached zero. Zero was the day he flew out of Germany.
And yesterday he send me a text before leaving Bangkok saying
“I’m coming home”.
Guess who was happy today?

This has been my week in photographs. 7 days. 7 photographs. Anyone can join. Once. Or weekly. It doesn’t matter. We welcome everyone! Dennett was the one starting this photography challenge in summer 2020 and many have participated ever since.
