Resurrect and Go Viral: Revive Old Blog Posts
From the Archives to the Limelight: How I Revived an Ancient Blog Post and Set the Spotlight on It Again

Introduction
Have you ever wondered if it’s possible to breathe new life into an old blog post? In this article, I’ll share my journey of reviving a 2018 blog post and making it go viral once more. It all started when I decided to migrate my content from GitHub to Medium, aiming to monetize my tutorials and step-by-step guides. Let’s dive into the details of my strategy, execution, and the impressive results I achieved.
The Blog Post
Back in 2018, while working with Oracle/MySQL, I delved into Docker technology. As part of the team developing the new Group Replication feature, I embarked on an experiment that few had attempted before deploying MySQL containers and creating a Group Replication on my local machine using lightweight containers.
The idea received overwhelming acceptance, with numerous suggestions to publish it on the old “MySQL Blog” which is now “The Oracle MySQL Blog”.
On October 4th, 2018, my blog post was published, gaining traction and becoming one of my most popular projects on GitHub. 👇
The Strategy
In April 2023, I joined Medium and started sharing my GitHub content on the Blogger Platform. Realizing the benefits of submitting articles to publications with a vast following, I began researching potential options. I stumbled upon Oracle Developers, a publication with an impressive 40k followers on Medium, 117K on Twitter, and 445K on Facebook.
💡 Since Oracle is the ‘owner’ of MySQL, I devised a strategy: submitting my article to be published on Medium’s ‘Oracle Developers’ publication.
Publications on Medium have played a pivotal role in expanding the reach of stories to a broader audience. Some of these publications have newsletters that highlight featured content, while others leverage social media platforms to distribute their curated articles. Furthermore, having your story showcased on a publication’s public page itself serves as a powerful form of advertisement.
The Execution
I rewrote the GitHub tutorial content in a Medium article, paying attention to every aspect of my story, including the title, subtitle, SEO (Search Engine Optimization), design, details (updated with recent outputs), images, grammar, and references. Consistency in these areas not only enhances the overall reader experience but also helps in building your brand and credibility as a writer.
Submitting an article for publication on Medium requires becoming a “writer” for that publication. Typically, publications have instructions on how to submit articles, but I couldn’t find one on the Oracle Developers’ page. Determined, I reached out to some reviewers and shared my story. Luckily, one of them responded, and we connected on LinkedIn. Given my affiliation with Oracle as an employee, the process became smoother. I submitted the draft, and on June 9th, my article was finally published.
The Results
The culmination of my efforts arrived on June 30th when Oracle Developers revived my 2018 blog post, bringing it back into the spotlight. The rejuvenated post garnered significant attention, generating renewed interest and engagement.
The tweet from Oracle Developers speaks for itself! 😃
