Resolve
A Poem
From the window, I watched the birds building their nest — one flying off for this stick, the other flying off for that stick
little beaks and feet and brown wings, somehow delicately inserting twigs into place to build a home, to make their safe space,
I watched with envy, I admit — no drama, no anxieties, no fighting about who puts what where, no mistrust,
just knowing what to do, a stick drops, one bird flies to retrieve it, easily, instinctively, with grace,
the other waits, the stick returns, in beak, and then they both get back to work —
even if one bird leaves, maybe even for good, the other bird will be fine, sitting on eggs, or sleeping to wait out the rain,
it will be there and be fine, bird life goes on, in pairs or alone, and I resolve that this has to be a lesson somehow, I resolve
to ensure my life goes on, with or without, and that drama and anxiety and fighting for sticks and twigs
has no place in my life only peace and grace can exist in my nest.
