POETRY WRITING PROMPT
Remind Me Why I Live Here?
A Southerner moves North

When I was a kid I used to complain about what I thought was frigid My hometown weather, a claim to fame; grey days horizontal rain Temperature betray a frequent pain
At the arse end of the south Proximity to the Pole Most Kiwi’s gave it mouth Not a town, but a hole I knew no better born and bred down to the letter But the gossip spread of climates warm much further north where the weather conforms Travel back and forth to avoid the cold Relish the heat A transient life — sold! Avoiding snow and sleet
My first taste of real cold Where am I? I asked I wasn’t told about an Antarctic blast of cold air Despite sunny days when the sun does blare No warmth in those rays Freezing rain and sleet Ice patches shimmer One needs cleats or you will skimmer across the ice Before you know it — Nope, it’s not nice Your legs will split
Sprawling uncontrolled, like a drunk Concrete-to-body spike a hard slam-dunk Ouch, that hurt My pride is shaken A time to blurt what I’ve forsaken
Lucy Dan 蛋小姐 (she/her/她) — you always inspire the silent poet within me!
