You tell her she is of more use to the people in the cathedral.

Eshami stares at you blankly for a moment, then sniffles once. “As you wish, my Hero.” She turns and leaves the antechamber.

Several days have passed, and Eshami looks up to the sky to see a humungous explosion, with debris streaking through the sky.

“Your Hero has failed,” the angel says solemnly as he bows his head. “You will need to select a hero to carry on in their stead. The evil has been released, and now seeks to poison your world with its dark tendrils.”

THE END … But…

Eshami runs back into the cathedral, looking desperately for someone to aid her. But the pews are once again empty. Once the floating stone disk disappeared and the Hero of Pendown along with it, the peasants and nobles slowly returned to their daily life.

Three seats are filled in the empty, echoing hall. One is a farmer wiping his sweaty brow after a laborious day in the fields; one is a noble, plump from their decadent lifestyle; and one is a small orphan girl, tiny and frail.

One of them will have to do.

“Brave citizens of Pendown!” Eshami calls out, her voice far louder than it needs to be, and she jumps slightly. She waits for the echoes to subside. “I am in need of a brave soul willing to seek out evil and eradicate it. You will be given whatever tools you ask for. Who will be the new Hero of Pendown?
