Reflections On Writing Every Day For a Week.

I can’t sleep.

I’ve been writing every day for the past seven days as part of the Ship 30for30 August cohort and in the spirit of practicing in public, I thought I’d share my reflections on how it’s going. Here are a few things I’ve noticed:

📌 I’m reminded that the brain is a muscle, the more you use it the stronger it gets.

I’ve been on a self-imposed creative sabbatical the past few years so apart from working and engaging with clients I’ve pretty much turned off my creative business center. It’s great to be back and feel the creative juices flowing again.

📌 My sense of observation has been kicked into high gear.

I’m thinking and analyzing issues more intentionally. I’ve always loved ruminating on issues and circumstances around me. I’m doing that a lot more now. I’m really paying attention and trying to make sense of conversations and deeply considering my reactions to events.

📌 I’m connecting dots that didn’t make sense before now.

Since part of my focus on this writing adventure is to share lessons learned on my creative journey so far, I’ve been doing a lot of reflection. Some things are coming into focus that I’d absolutely forgotten about. Like coming across an email I had sent out to a big brand asking for a list of their distributors so I could pitch the products I had created for my eCommerce business. And also, pictures from my first vendor event selling said products. I had no idea what I was doing at the time. I just went for things.

While I don’t regret any of the steps I took, some of them were misguided and not well thought out. The process of reflecting on my journey and writing about it is giving me a lot of clarity and a sense of renewed purpose.

On the flip side, all this thinking, analyzing, and writing is making it quite difficult for me to wind down.🙄 I’m not a morning person by any stretch of the imagination but my body is doing that thing where it wakes me up at 6 am every day without effort. I feel over-caffeinated and I don’t even drink coffee.😂
