Reflection on Colours
How do colours affect us?
Have you ever wondered why you prefer specific colours? It’s not just about certain colours, but the occasion on which they are used.
I came from a generation where colours have particular meanings. Black and white are often associated with funerals in Chinese culture.
My parents would not allow me to wear black or white shirts or t-shirts when I was a child. Some school uniforms use those colours, but they are acceptable because they are just part of a uniform.
There is a shift in culture and tradition today, and many young people wear black as their primary dress colour. They wear black clothes because it has become trendy.
Let’s talk about the colour red. In Chinese culture, red is an auspicious colour used in Lunar New Year celebrations. For this reason, red packets are common for gift exchanges during Lunar New Year.
Colours also influence our moods in a variety of ways. When I’m unsure what colour to get for my shirts, I’ll go with blue. Blue is a colour associated with peace and stability.
When I need an energy boost, I reach for yellow because it represents the sun. I feel a lot more energetic when I wear yellow.
The next time you choose a colour for your clothing, consider what it represents and how it may affect your mood.
Different colours define certain occasions in other cultures, and you can find all this information on Google.
