Rediscovering Your Animal Nature
Through the Five Senses

It may be…
“highly unlikely that one day you’ll suddenly be bathed in bright light and your life’s purpose will be laid out in a divine vision.”
Said the gopher in The Meaning of Life by Bradley Trevor Greive, but surely you can try it!
- Bathing yourself in bright light meditation is attached below :)
The contribution of this article is geared towards the five senses, a gateway into our innermost beingness. The senses remind us what it means to be an animal.

We are part of the animal kingdom, and we are vessels with energy centers.
Each center is in direct relationship with the five senses. By intentionally focusing on them, you draw deeper into your essence, your aura expands, and you remember how interrelated and interconnected you are to your divine nature, the earth’s living ecosystems, and to Spirit.
Try This!
Concerning mass society, we spend so much time looking at our phones, TVs, and computer screens. And we spend far too much time indoors. We have become highly domesticated, we have lost touch with our basic instincts, and our connection to Spirit (Creator, God, The Divine, etc…)
If this were not true, then we wouldn’t
“consider ourselves to be the smartest life form on the planet while knowingly continuing to foul our own nest with countless manufactured threats to our own survival. How intelligent is that?”
Writes Joan Morris in The Mercury News.
Take a break and indulge your senses…
Don’t just focus on one, strengthen all of them; for they are directly linked to our instincts, intuition, and psychic abilities.
Whatever you are engaged in, go deeper through your senses. Bring all your attention to them. Meditation is being so intently present that you are one with the moment, and all that is. Here are a few ways to engage your five senses (whether you were born with all of them or not — imagination and visualization is magic!)
Touching
- A touch is an important form of tactile communication for animals. Nuzzle, hug, and comfort your loved ones and kindred animal friends. Hug a tree, touch a rose, hold a paintbrush, eat with your hands…
- What do you feel when touching with full presence?
- How do you feel about something that arises?
- What is your gut saying?
Smelling
- The scent is one of our strongest instincts that the animal kingdom uses to gather and discern information. Take time to not only smell the roses, but use your sense of smell to pick up on the subtleties of life, to navigate, and to communicate with existence.
- Is the rain coming? Do I smell water, a lake, a river?
- How does this person smell to me? Does their sent draw me in closer, or do I need to take a few steps back? Boundaries are what lets me love both myself and you at the same time. Body odor is linked to sexual attraction and can help identify whether a potential mate will pass on favorable genes to offspring.
- Be keenly aware, and observe this sense with attentiveness. Loved ones who have passed, sometimes use scent to communicate with us. The scent is a powerful teleporter and a reminder of meaningful moments.
Hearing
- Whether you are predator or prey, hearing is a universal alerting system that is hardwired into biological survival. Sound helps animals hear all that is going on around them, regardless of where their current attention is focused.
- Sound travels much farther underwater than it does in the air. If you are near the ocean; get in, dive down, and listen. If you are lucky, you might hear dolphins!
- There is a connection between the ears, nose, and throat. So listen to music, to the birds, to the river. Listen to what wisdoms the animals, plants, trees, and life have to share with you. Listen to the voice of the divine, your loved ones on the other side, your guides, listen to your inner voice and speak your truth.
- Allow a friend, family member, or stranger to express what is in their heart. Be present with the sole intent to be of service, and to listen without needing to speak.
- Cry when you need to cry. Allow your throat to be cleared, and your heart to be healed.
Seeing
- For every animal (humans included), insect, reptile, and all life forms; vision is especially unique. Some even have more than one or two eyes! We all see the world differently for different reasons.
- Nevertheless… Look around at this world: look at people’s faces, look at the sky, look at textures, check out all the colors and rainbows that surround you!
- See and be with what is right in front of you… “I see you.”
- Do meditation visualizations.
- Create art purely for your heart! Enjoy all the colours and the many ways they blend together.
Tasting
- Animals have used taste for both survival and evolution. Taste helps to determine if a food is safe to eat.
- Explore new foods, not dangerous ones like forest mushrooms or berries you know nothing about. Our senses are rusty, so start with trying new spices, fruits, vegetables, grains, etc.
I hope you enjoy your adventure of the senses, and rediscovery into both your animal and psychic nature!
