Summary

The poem "Redemption" by Natalie Frank explores the theme of liberation and personal growth, drawing parallels with the biblical Exodus, and emphasizing the transformative power of taking the first step towards change.

Abstract

"Redemption" is a reflective poem that uses the metaphor of a child's birth to describe the painful yet necessary process of self-liberation. It suggests that, like the biblical Exodus, personal growth requires a courageous step into the unknown, despite the fear of leaving one's comfort zone. The poem speaks to the idea that by confronting our inner turmoil and taking action, we can overcome mental barriers and achieve a collective healing. It encourages readers to have faith in themselves, in each other, and in

Prompt: Exodus

Like a child born from labored womb

— An exodus

The trauma of being forced from the garden Heard in it’s first cry

— Reluctant emergence

To enter life Is a journey born of one single step The way back blocked despite denial Guarded as zealous as if by burning sword It is this first step which separates The coward from the courageous For within it lies the totality

— A world realized

Waiting on the banks The sea will never split Only by stepping forward To greet the waves Will it part

— A matter of faith

In ourselves In each other In the greater good of all humanity Even when it seems hidden

— Unrealized

Though each a single puzzle piece Wanting completion

— Afraid to change

Searching for our place Where we snugly fit Joined to create a greater whole

— A Gestalt

If we free ourselves From the slavery of the mind Journey without hindrance To our collective inner soul We can heal the jagged fragments Which cut away at our inner self And make tentative The single step That will move us forward A mere few inches physically But metaphysically light years

When we shatter that which hinders us Then can we see Within everyone An entire universe is held Allowing each

— For all the world

— For all of existence

A synecdoche to become
