Record-Setting Views During My Laziest Ten Days on Medium
Is this how passive income starts?
I’ve been struggling lately. I have some chronic health issues and have been in a bit of a flare-up. For the past few weeks, I have had almost no energy.
This happens sometimes and I know when it does I have to just accept my limitations and rest as much as possible. I was afraid that stopping my momentum here on Medium would have negative consequences. I’d spent the past two months publishing and interacting more than ever. I was enjoying the results it was driving.
As a blogger on Medium, the platform provides a lot of data on my work. So I was able to view how much traction my articles were getting. I looked at how many views I got each day and how many reads. Views mean an article was opened, reads mean that someone actually read it.
To my surprise, my stats have been good over my ten-day hiatus. Not only was I not publishing articles during this time, but I wasn’t reading and interacting with others.
Here are my stats:

Not only have I not seen a dramatic dip in my views over the past ten days of inactivity, but I actually saw my highest views ever in a day! On July 8, I had 839 views. That’s a personal best.
My reads had similar results.

The stats on how many reads I got during these ten days look similar. I came very close to a record here, too.
In total, I have published 60 stories on Medium. 14 of those were published in June, the month before this little break of mine.
Three of my articles from June seem to have driven the most views and reads while I was away from Medium and resting:
A Side Hustle Date Night
Sure, you can plan a cheap date… but how about a profitable one?
medium.com
I am so grateful that people enjoy my work enough to keep reading it even when I disappear temporarily! These were some of my favorite articles of June, so it’s nice to know that there is interest in reading what I love to write.
For those of you who also write on Medium, you may be wondering about the money.
$4.21
As of July 11, I’ve earned $4.21 for the first ten days of July. That’s already more than I made in April, when I started getting active here again!

This is exciting passive income! Yes, $4.21 is a small amount of money. I’m not exactly going to be using it to cover any of my bills. But as a percentage of what I currently make when I’m hustling to write, it’s pretty impressive. And it really gives me hope about the possibility of building to a place where those numbers might start to make a significant dent in my budget.
Thank you for reading and sharing my journey!
