Reclaim, Recycle and Reuse

Six Word Photo Story Challenge: Freestyle

It can almost taste the water

This last week in our town it has been Hornsea Open Gardens, a scheme where members of the public open their gardens to visitors.

This year eight gardens entered the scheme and there was a fee of £5 per adult, with any accompanied children free. All money raised goes to the Marie Curie nursing charity in this region.

Marie Curie Nurses offer free nursing care to people living with all terminal illnesses who want to stay in their own home and give support for their families.

There was a range of beautiful gardens to view, from the large sweeping vista to cottage style and the small perfectly formed garden. The local allotments were also open to visitors.

One garden, in particular, caught my eye for its quirkiness, number 5 on the list, entitled — Reclaim, Recycle and Reuse.

Trevor, the gardener, had filled his garden with items he’d found littering our beach, or which he had removed from skips with the owner’s permission or defunct garden implements. Engine parts and rusty pistons litter his borders with plants happily growing in them.

In the photograph, the long piece of driftwood shaped like a bird’s neck, or it could be a snake, appears to be straining to take a drink from an old birdbath Trevor found in a skip and repaired.

Thanks go to Mary Chang Story Writer for coming up with all these wonderful 6-word challenges, assisted ably by her four strong souls in the SWPSC Team.
