Receiving Love

A poem

Some find it easier to give than receive love. It almost feels like you don’t deserve to receive something if you hadn’t personally invested enough, done enough in the first place.

In practicing how to receive love, perhaps the first step that was effective was to learn how to give and receive love from yourself.

This means making time in your schedule for moments solely for you, solely for enjoyment (and not for productivity), and abandoning the idea of only resting, eating, healing when “enough” has been done.

At the heart of this Valentine, is a simple message: you are enough, by simply being you.

Lucy Dan 蛋小姐 (she/her/她) wants to thank Galit Birk, PhD for her Valentine’s Day poem prompt on self-love. In reflection, I thought about how hard it was for me to start giving myself love, and part of it was finding it difficult when others gave me love in the first place. In practicing self-love, I’d been able to grow and accept without feeling the need to overcompensate. 💓 Check out her prompt here:
