This prompt A Drabble a Day 2: The Drabbling is by Me in The Fiction Writer’s Den. The word today is ORNITHOLOGIST.

Brockton had been traveling for five days. He’d traveled by plane, boat, car, truck and, for one awkward bit, a rickety seaplane that smoked and rattled.

It would all be worth it, though. He would be the undisputed hero of his ornithologists group.

He dragged his camera equipment up steep slopes among the howling winds and sliding rocks. He climbed ever higher, until the world was a distant blur below.

And there it was, crackling with a golden energy. The egg, large and smooth, pulsed and twitched.

And, as the first cracks appeared, he was consumed by the phoenix’s fire.
