A hoodie and some headphones…

The beauty of a hoodie comes from the protection it gives to the world around you. Combine this with a pair of headphones and a sonically spectacular symphony, you can truly break out from the worries and the everyday monotony that is life.

For me, hood up means do not disturb, and without fail, it has worked every time. Whether I want to hide sadness, or express anger, one simple action of pulling that hood up to cover my face does the trick.

To hide, rather, to mask my true feelings is something that I’ve become rather good at in the past few years, mainly due to the isolation I’ve experienced around people in my life. Misanthropic much? Alas, my hoodie gives me a mobile security blanket which allows me to go unbothered when needed. Plus, it’s always with me. Rarely, if at all, you’ll ever see me travel without it — even in the Australian summer, which by the way, is bloody scorching. It has now become an essential part of my everyday carry.

If ever the time I cannot find one laying around, I still have the zipper jacket, blacked out, hood included. A nice alternative to my hoodie to say the least. Plus, the dark black colour allows for all sorts of combinations when choosing my outfit for the day, although, I usually opt for a monochromatic and minimalistic look.

Underneath, I usually pair this with a set of wired headphones. Ancient, I know but I prefer it to the technological headache that comes with wireless ones. They’re cheap ones too, but I don’t care. They do the job, and that’s all that really matters at the end of the day. Although I have been forced to rock a pair of wireless headphones anyways, as my new phone doesn’t have a headphone jack, I digress. Usually, I’d be listening to a meticulously crafted playlist of either 1990s-2000s lyrical rap or some of my favourite instrumental scores. A mix for sure, but I usually just play whatever speaks to the soul that day. That’s how we all should listen to music right?

The symbiotic relationship I seem to have with my hoodie and a nice pair of headphones has allowed me, like many others before, to completely zone out and ignore the world for the few moments that I feel that feeling of true freedom which can best be described as a one-on-one experience between yourself and yourself.
