PHOTO-A-DAY CHALLENGE
Rainbows are Hope for the Future
Week 108 of the photographic documentary of my daily life
I’ve been talking this summer a lot about heat, drought, and the lack of rain. And for once I’m not on African soil mentioning these things but in central Europe.
I just read Dennett‘s story on rainbows. She talks about rainbows that characterize hope and good luck. And new beginnings. As long as you don’t think the rainbow appeared for you. But we’re not that selfish person anyway.
I’ve been lucky this week. We finally received rain, more rain, and this beautiful rainbow above. It was too large for me to capture it in a normal-framed image. I had to take a panoramic shot to get the full power of it in one shot.
It had rained most of the day and only slowed down towards the evening. My rainwater buckets were a long time filled and the country was taking a relaxing breather. Finally, water.
The sun had disappeared behind the forest already when I came out of the shower seeing this colorful rainbow in the sky. I smiled. Immediately, I ran back inside to grab my camera. With the towel still wrapped around my hair, I walked onto the field, trying to capture this moment for you.
Because I love sharing special moments. I love to share the hope and good luck this rainbow symbolizes. And I like to talk about new beginnings. I know I am soon again somewhere, starting a new beginning. I don’t know where yet but it will happen soon.
Thursday was the first day without sunshine in a long time. The skies were grey all day long and it rained later as well.
At one point my husband was calling me quickly pointing at a swarm of birds in the sky. They were circling the trailer park for almost half an hour, taking off to the skies and then sitting down in a tree again.
I’d say they were a group of starlings, but I could be wrong.

On Friday, the wetness continued. More grey skies and rainfall.

They had canceled our work for Saturday beforehand already, and therefore we knew we had an extra day off. But what do you want to do on a day where it is supposed to be raining all day long?
We decided to head to the city of Neuruppin and go for breakfast. We don’t often eat out living in a trailer park out of town and especially not for breakfast.

Driving around looking for a café or restaurant that ordered something more than just coffee and cake, we stumbled upon the lakefront, where I saw this community of swans approaching the shore.
I guess they also wanted to go for breakfast.
Or did they want to attend church?

Back in our trailer, we relaxed for the rest of the day. I wrote and read a lot. As usual on such rainy days.
My husband managed to catch half an hour of no rain and he quickly made some fire to make our steaks on the coals. They just taste better that way.

And just about an hour after dinner, the above-mentioned rainbow appeared. This is the photograph taken with my camera. As I say. The rainbow didn’t fit into the frame, which is why I switched over to the panoramic function.

Sunday, we were back at work. There was a layer of fog hovering above the ground in the morning, but once it cleared, we were good to go. Just a thin layer of clouds was covering the sky.
And above, the sun always shines.

When the skies are pretty. This is from another day, from another angle, and from another sky. I think. There were clouds, and it all looked like in fairytale land. Maybe just because I was happy about the rain the land had received.
However, it was a great day. I was out and about rollerblading through the countryside, watching clouds build up and fly by and enjoying the lush green of the landscape.

On Tuesday, I got another picture from the skies. The last one for this week. I got some changing scenery for you in the next post.

And here I am cheating a bit. This picture was taken by my husband. But it shows what made my day.
I ordered my first skydiving rig customized for me. Previously I only bought second-hand ones. This one is fitted for me and of course, designed the way I wanted it.
Excitement!

This has been my week in photographs. 7 days. 7 photographs. Anyone can join. Once. Or weekly. It doesn’t matter. We welcome everyone! Dennett started this photography challenge in 2020 and many have participated ever since.
