Rainbo Conversation
A modern poetic tribute to Bossa Nova

buzzing burst of green soaks my ears with luscious bliss chorus intoxicating humming spectrum taking me sweetly smelling of heat discourse fluttering chords floating me just above the trees
Notes: This poem was inspired by Stereolab’s song Rainbo Conversation. French-English legends Stereolab are indie/post-rock canon and their brilliant album “Dots and Loops” experimented with multiple genres of pop, overridingly influenced by bossa nova. “Rainbo Conversation” reflects the conceptual experimentality of Bossa Nova with pop and could be a stand alone iteration of bossa nova in the ’90s in its breezy and unique time signatures, deceiving the listener about its subversive underpinnings. “Dots and Loops”, like bossa nova, stealthily railed against the hegemony. VICE aptly describes the album as “the 50s version of what the future would look like”.
The lyrics.
Written for the July Summer Music Challenge where I wrote a poem or story about bossa nova for 31 days. See below for all entries including Terry Barr’s 8 brilliant memoirs about summer and music:
