Summary

A survey by Bespoke Surgical reveals mixed feelings about oral sex among respondents, with a majority finding it pleasurable and fun, yet a significant minority experiencing discomfort, self-consciousness, and negative emotions.

Abstract

The survey conducted by Bespoke Surgical, involving approximately 1,000 participants across the country, indicates that oral sex is a common and generally enjoyable part of sexual activity, with an average frequency of 5.32 times giving and 5.20 times receiving per month. The majority of respondents (80.7%) find oral sex pleasurable, consider it fun (73.5%), and believe it brings them closer to their partner (55.8%). However, the survey also uncovers a notable percentage of individuals who report negative feelings such as self-consciousness (25.3%), discomfort (13.5%), feeling dirty (11.8%), considering it gross (6.3%), and feeling shame (3.5%). Despite these negative perceptions, Bespoke Surgical views the overall attitudes as promising, while acknowledging there is room for improvement in societal views on oral sex.

Opinions

  • Positive Attitudes: A significant majority of respondents enjoy oral sex, finding it both pleasurable and a bonding experience with their partner.
  • Negative Experiences: A considerable portion of participants associate oral sex with negative feelings, ranging from self-consciousness to discomfort and shame.
  • Room for Improvement: Bespoke Surgical acknowledges that despite the positive trends, there is a need for ongoing dialogue and education to foster healthier attitudes towards oral sex.
  • Encouraging Statistics: The company interprets the survey results as indicative of a generally healthy sexual attitude towards oral sex, with the potential for further progress.

According to a survey of about 1,000 people around the country, which was conducted by Bespoke Surgical, respondents perform oral sex on their partner an average of 5.32 times a month, while they receive oral sex 5.20 times a month. Not surprisingly, 80.7 percent of respondents report that they find oral sex pleasurable and 73.5 percent say they think it’s fun. In addition, 55.8 percent of people say oral sex makes them feel closer to their partner.

“Overall, we feel that these are promising statistics when it comes to a healthy sexual attitude around oral sex….”

For others, however, the feelings about oral sex are not so positive.

The survey also found that:

  • 25.3 percent of people say oral sex makes them self-conscious
  • 13.5 percent say oral sex is uncomfortable
  • 11.8 percent say oral sex makes them feel dirty
  • 6.3 percent believe oral sex is gross
  • 3.5 percent find oral sex shameful

Although it’s unfortunate that so many people have negative feelings about oral sex, Bespoke Surgical believes that the survey results are still encouraging.

“Overall, we feel that these are promising statistics when it comes to a healthy sexual attitude around oral sex, but of course, there is always more work to be done,” the company explained in a blog post.
