Quarantine Diary, week two
Monday, Mar. 23
My cats are getting annoyed at having me home all the time.

I had to do a load of laundry after Henri puked on a rug. The washing machine and dryer is in my building’s garage. We only have one machine for 8 units after the second one broke. We were supposed to have a new one delivered last week, but it’s been delayed indefinitely.
I got an email from a stupid recruiter who thinks I would be interested in moving to another city for a 6 month contract. I told him what to do with it.
I stayed home the rest of the day.
Tuesday, Mar. 24
I went shopping at Luke’s Local & Walgreens. Luke’s was pretty bare, but I picked up a fresh pizza. Walgreens was pretty well stocked, including TP, but no hand sanitizer or disinfecting wipes. I also did another load of laundry, which should last me the rest of the week.
I got emails from two more recruiters from other states. Why do they expect me to move to another city for a stupid contract job?
For the Great American Takeout, I went to Crepes On Cole. I had a nice talk with the owner while I was waiting, about the neighborhood and how businesses are surviving.
I’m so angry about the current right wing talking point that we should let people die to bring back the economy. The economy will recover in time. A lot of small businesses may not make it, so the government should be giving them emergency loans. As for the money being sent to individuals, basing it on previous years tax returns is ridiculous. A lot of people made more than $75,000 in 2018 but are out of work now. It won’t do anything to help them.
Wednesday, Mar. 25
Today has been pretty uneventful. One of my cats is sleeping whenever he isn’t eating and the other one is going stir crazy and running around the apartment.
I found out what happened with the washer & dryer that was supposed to be delivered last week. The owner who arranged it planned to be out of the country at the time, so he gave Best Buy a different owner’s number. However, Best Buy neglected to inform the delivery people, so they called the wrong number and the original owner wasn’t able to receive the call from where he was. They were unable to deliver it and now it probably won’t be here until late April or May.
Thursday, Mar. 26
Another uneventful day. I had two phone interviews, including the one rescheduled from last week.
I went to the store and along the way I met a good friend. We talked for a while from more than 6 feet apart. It was really nice to see a friend in person, even if we had to maintain our distance.
Friday, Mar. 27
I took a walk around my neighborhood just to get out and get some exercise.
I’ve been listening to Bob Dylan’s new song, Murder Most Foul. The musical arrangement is pretty bare, but the lyrics are some of his richest. There’s really a lot to unpack there, starting with JFK’s assassination and referring to lots of artists and songs with some obscure references.
My favorite neighborhood restaurant, Beit Rima, re-opened for takeout orders.
Saturday, Mar. 28
Another quiet day. I went to the grocery store and did my laundry in the morning.
Someone in my neighborhood Facebook group was looking for an iPad for the kids, so I gave her my old iPad Air 2, which has been sitting in a drawer unused for a few years.
I tried to get some work done, but my brain turned to mush and I couldn’t concentrate.
Sunday, Mar. 29
It rained this morning, but after it stopped, I went out for a walk around my neighborhood.
I took a coding challenge, which I passed.
