ARC OF THE IMMORTALS/ Book 1 — Part 2

Pursuit: 38/ Down The Rabid Hole

Recap: A liquid fuel rocket takes off by Von Deign’s ship. Hannah & the younger Touzdae are on his view screen. They cut-off communication. The rocket explodes.

Recap continued: Touzdae as observer knows they didn’t perish. Jac works on testing the new ship.

Touzdae intends to go to Hannah and her younger self but goes to Gata during the collapse of the Levelz. Touzdae merges with her younger self grieving until the younger falls asleep. She transports to an earlier time outside Goto-ak’s shop where Luna walks away.

Touzdae wonders if what her mafa said about duplicates applies to Luna. Young Touzdae finds herself back on Von Deign’s ship in front of her mafa encased in salt in a half-life chamber. Intent on saving her mafa, Hannah appears and says her you can’t.

“You can’t save her, Touzdae,” Hannah tells the young Touzdae.

They stood in a long corridor. To the right, an embankment of transparent half-life chambers lined the wall. Filled with people. Each encased in salt of various colors.

“She’s alive within the salt. In pain. She must be saved,” young Touzdae beat her fists into Hannah’s chest in a feeble gesture.

“Look. I know you have the skill to observe yourself dispassionately. See the action you are intent on taking. Look to see what it will do,” Hannah told her. “Stop thinking only of yourself. Of your loss. See! Look! Look at how she feels. Look and see what your mafa wants. Be your future self!”

That’s my cue, Touzdae’s consciousness entered and blended with Touzdae the younger. She fought Touzdae’s older wiser self and burst into tears. Touzdae the elder embraced the younger with channeled unconditional love. The elder showed the younger her impulsive plan to remove their mafa. Cool the salt. Evaporate it. The molecular structure of the treated salt had bonded with the skin. Any attempt to remove it would cause excruciating and intense pain. And would mark her for a slow painful death. Either way, it was excruciating,

“I can’t leave her here like this. I feel her pain. I-FEEL-HER-PAIN-IN-MY-BODY!” she screamed into Hannah’s calm face.

Two guards entered the long corridor.

“We have to go, Touzdae,” Hannah implored her, as she threw up a force field to protect them from laz fire.

Soldiers came in from the other direction. Hannah erected another force field from the EM energy of her auric field as she had done before.

The soldiers had an over-the-shoulder-laz-canon. They fired. It bounced off the shield which shorted it out. The discharge hit one of the half-life chambers. In an instant the salt-encased person burst into flames. The adjacent half-life chamber shattered. Mafa’s body broke into pieces.

“That’s it, we’re out of here,” Hannah scooped up Touzdae in her arms an bilocated them out of there.

They landed aboard Touzdae’s ship under the sand. Touzdae the elder popped out.

Touzdae the elder consciousness went forward to Touzdae as she woke up at the healing center. Jac was gone. She inquired after him.

One of the healers’ assistants told Touzdae that two Entu Monks came.

She said, “Took him away, they did. He was dead. They were taking him to the Well of Souls, I heard one say.”

“Are you sure it was Jac Kristos?”

“Aye, I am,” she said with a cast-off remark of, “Sorry.”

The healing center was full of the survivors of the Levelz collapse.

Touzdae ran out of there. She knew where she was going. Touzdae the observer knew too. It was the Well, the Well of Souls.
