Summary

The webpage presents a poetic reflection on the human condition, emphasizing the disconnect between thought and action, and the fear of embracing one's potential.

Abstract

The website features a poem titled "Shadow" under the "Daily Dose of Philosophy" series, which delves into the philosophical theme of human potential and the tendency to remain inactive despite our aspirations. It suggests that our actions, or lack thereof, cast a shadow over our existence, leading to a life that is less than what it could be. The poem reflects on the sacrifice of not acting on our thoughts, the fear of the unknown, and the importance of overcoming this fear to rise from the shadows of inaction. The author concludes by thanking the reader and expressing hope that the poetry was enjoyed, while also providing links to other philosophical poems.

Opinions

  • The poem conveys a critical view of passive existence, implying that it is a mistake to separate thought from action.

  • The text suggests a connection between inaction and denial, indicating that people avoid confronting their future and thereby become aimless.
  • The author encourages readers to break free from the cycle of inaction and the accompanying thoughts that perpetuate it.
  • The poem's tone implies a call to self-reflection and personal growth, urging readers to act and thus shape their destinies.

We are but shadows of the actions we take, For our chosen words seem to suffice. We suffocate through our thoughts, what mistake. To think and not do leads to sacrifice.

We are all beings yet to grow, For our potential is never fully shown. We desire what we do not know, But we are too afraid to peer into the unknown.

Short sight we have, burdens’ our actions, Denial goes hand in hand with idleness, For what is to come frightens. We sink into the depth of our shadows, becoming causeless.

Escape the thoughts we bequeath, Rise from your shadow, from beneath.

Thank you for taking the time and reading my poetry. I hope that you enjoyed it. Stay tuned for more from the Daily Dose of Philosophy.
