AI Image How-To— #3

Realistic Animal AI images with Midjourney — secrets revealed!

Grizzly Bear — AI-generated image by author using Midjourney

There will be a regular Monday publication to The Fictioneer’s Treasure Trove explaining how to create stunning AI images. Follow and subscribe to emails so you don’t miss out! Like the pages and leave comments on what you’d like to learn about.

AI Images — #1 covers the basics for obtaining the desired end result of your AI image — whether you want it to look like an amazing painting or an awesome photograph. If you haven’t read through it yet, I recommend you start there.

For each AI publication, I also give you the prompts for each image so you can learn to create stunning images.

Rottweiler — AI-generated image by author using Midjourney

The first AI animal image is in honor of my beloved Rottweiler-Husky rescue, Mercy! I used the same prompt for both images but you may notice, I omitted a lighting tag.

I am, however, obsessed with hyper-detailed images. The AI created the muscular build of the Rottweiler, and generated individual hairs on the animal, individual blades of grass, shadows, and highlights…

I worked with happy and playful as emotions for these two. Both images captured the Rottweiler personality quite well — inquisitive, serious, eager to please, and a happy “child” with the tongue hanging out.

For the background, I wanted the dog in a grassy yard (obviously, the grass needs to be mowed!) with trees in the background.

Image prompt used for Rottweiler image:

Siberian Husky — AI image using Midjourney

I simplified the prompt for the Husky and used Siberian Husky laying down. Each of the start images turned out beautifully, with the dog looking into your eyes.

I attempted to have a fireplace in the background but AI must have a bit of pyromaniac in its coding. There was fire throughout the images like with my images of C.S. Lewis!

I also attempted a colorful rug but quickly changed my mind after seeing colorful squares throughout the frame (under the dog, at least) like the foam ones a child plays on.

Cinematic still shot, full-shot angle, and 32k tell the AI to create a photography quality image — they are photography terms.

You may be wondering how the landscape portrait was achieved. The ending tag “ — ar 16:9” tells AI the width and length ratio of the image. If you flip the numbers, you will have a tall portrait. If you do not list an — ar number, you will have a square image (with Midjourney.)

Grizzly Bear — AI-generated image by author using Midjourney

Again, (mostly without thinking about it,) I excluded a light source prompt. Throughout the different images, it appears as if AI added natural light (above) and morning light (title image and below.)

The first “emotion” I requested was for the bear to be growling. Perhaps half of the images generated were of a growling bear. I tried several times for the bear to have a fish in its mouth. Instead, the image appeared more like the bear was drowning and being fish-slapped! The title image captured the growl perfectly.

Both of these images gives the appearance that if you stroked the bear, your hand would return wet and hairy! AI created the water to splash and swirl around its legs, the rocks in the river, along with varying degrees of light.

Grizzly Bear with cubs— AI-generated image by author using Midjourney

For the bears above, I request an image of Grizzly Bear with cub and received a bonus cub!

As long as you give AI a basis, such as a grassy yard, river, or mountains…you will receive stunning images. At least eventually…Julius Caesar took many, many, many attempts to get what I wanted.

Bald Eagle — AI image using Midjourney

For the Bald Eagles, I decided to use different prompts. Telling AI to create a Bald Eagle perched sitting on a nest (above,) created very similar images. The main aspect that varied was the positioning of the eagle or the direction it looked.

Forest puts the forest in the background, with tidbits in the foreground.

Cinematic still shot places emphasis on the context and background.

You may have noticed I used full-shot angle in each of the images on this page. That portion of the prompt gives your target in full view.

Bald Eagle — AI image using Midjourney

For the above Bald Eagle, I wanted it to appear as if it were catching a fish. It looks a little bit like a rock or debris, so I’ve decided the fish is on the other side!

Using river for the background creates the setting and splashing water. More often than not, I find AI includes river rocks in the images, which is why I’m inclined to think the fish is behind “the rock.”

I often use Mario Testino as one of the photographers. For the eagles, I searched a different wildlife photographer — Lara Jackson. I am unsure how this affects they images produces for wildlife.
