People Are Honest -The Biggest Lie Society Feeds Us
The Biggest Lie I was ever taught is that people are honest and do the right thing. They aren’t and they don’t.
They do what serves them and if this means being dishonest and breaking laws, then they will do it.
Doing the right thing when it suits them
You only have to look at British Prime minister Boris Johnson and the Partygate Scandal.
The leader of the UK lied repeatedly about going to parties at Number 10 Downing Street during the COVID Pandemic. I could be wrong but I am pretty sure he was the one responsible for making the lockdown and social distancing laws. It seems there really was no excuse for breaking them. And yet, he did. Repeatedly!
There are so many examples of people and countries doing what serves them. Take the Ukraine war as another example. I live in Varna Bulgaria. The residents here are complaining about the number of Ukrainian refugees.
They don’t like the refugees because there are so many of them. They feel threatened by the large numbers and uncomfortable when they walk in the city and all they can hear is people speaking the Ukraine language. But to add salt to the wound, there are also a lot of wealthy male and female Ukrainians.
This doesn’t go down well with the Bulgarians. According to the news, men of the Ukraine are supposed to stay and fight and yet here they are enjoying the spas and the seaside cafes. Who can blame them? All of this is causing resentment, especially as so many Ukrainians have nice cars. Cars that the average Bulgarian can’t afford.
The Ukrainians are also pushing up the rental prices, so locals and other expats can’t afford to rent. I know of one couple who were told to get out because the landlord wanted the higher rent.
Does any of this sound like the right thing?
Trust must be earned
It took me a long time to learn that honesty and truth are subjective. What is honest to one person is dishonest to another. Once I understood that, life got a whole lot easier.
When you accept that people are in it for themselves, it forces you to take responsibility for everything in your life and to understand that your trust is something that people have to earn from you. Not something that you give away willy-nilly.
