Pelosi, Call Trump’s Post Office Bluff
Do something worthwhile instead of talking it to death
According to TV news, post office boxes are being picked up, postal workers hours are being cut back. And the Post Office will not have enough money to operate effectively enough to guarantee delivery of mail-in ballots.
The solution is simple
The House should quickly, like in the next week or so, pass an Emergency Post Office Delivery bill, E-POD, that provides extra funding for pickup and delivery of all mail to the end of the year. It should provide funding for overtime, part-time workers, extended post office hours, and returning external pickup boxes that have been removed.
It should do nothing else!
It should not address pensions, salary increases, new buildings, boarder walls, schools, roads, House and Senate pensions, medical research, or anything else that does not directly impact mail pickup and delivery. Congress has a reputation of attaching all kinds of unrelated junk to a bill, then complaining that the other side will not allow the one simple measure to pass.
It should also require first-class mail be given collection, sorting, and delivery priority over all other mail, except medical shipments, from October 20, 2020 to November 10, 2020.
This should not be too difficult, in Congressional terms, if they stick to one point, collection and delivery of mail. The house should kill any unrelated amendments.
If the House passes such a bill, the pressure will fall directly on the Senate. House members could highlight any attempts by the Senate to add unrelated amendments.
Any attempt to stall, over-amend, or kill the bill would be seen as promoting election fraud by the US Government
Nobody will want that publicity just before the election.
Try it. The squirming and dodging should be entertaining.
