Peasant Consciousness Will Suck the Life Right Out of You

5 ways to spot it

Image created by the author in Midjourney.

I recently discovered a YouTuber named Mina Irfan (her channel is The Universe Guru), and I am obsessed.

I’ve been binge-watching 12 years' worth of her videos on 1.5x speed so I can get through as many as possible.

She’s a life coach, a deca-millionaire, a wife, and a mom.

If you want to snap out of your limited mindset, then you might want to start binge-watching her videos too!

(I also just ordered her book Lady Balls (aff. link), and it’ll be here soon!)

But there was one particular video I listened to that really had me nodding “Yes, yes, yes!” the entire time.

Peasant consciousness.

The video is called 5 ways to spot peasant consciousness (jealousy, envy, scarcity).

I would definitely recommend watching it, but I’ll give you the 5 ways to spot it below.

Mina’s whole message is that women need to get out of their scarcity mindset, tap into the power of the Universe, and use their “lady balls” to create a life of their dreams.

Someone with a peasant consciousness is always jealous, wants everything handed to them for free, and generally just suck the life out of everyone around them.

Let’s get into the 5 ways to spot peasant consciousness and see if you recognize any of these.

First, Mina says something important at the beginning of the video:

“The world is a mirror. And whatever you send out, you get back. And you are blocking your blessings by being in peasant consciousness.”

(I wrote about the Mirror Principle here, but the basic idea is that you get back what you put out in life. If you’re generally positive, you’ll see more positive things in the world. If you’re negative, that’s what will be mirrored back to you.)

This peasant consciousness is something you might spot in others, but also in yourself. If you see it in yourself, that’s OK. (I do sometimes!) Once you become aware of it, you can start to change it.

1. They have a scarcity mindset.

This is the energy of lack, jealousy, and envy. If you have something someone wants, they think you’re the reason they can’t get it. You’re blocking their success because there isn’t enough to go around.

These are the same people who yell about billionaires. They complain about how they have too much money and how they should share their part of the pie.

There is no pie.

Everyone has the same opportunity to earn money. Most people just aren’t willing to believe it and work toward it due to this scarcity mindset.

2. They have an eye on your blessings.

Someone might see what you have and use it as motivation. “She’s a mom and she has a thriving. If she can do it, so can I!” This is a good mindset to have.

But it can also be used in a negative way. They have an eye on what you have and they want to take it from you.

“You have two of these amazing things I want, so you can just give me one.”

If you own a business, people might ask you for money or to get something for free because “you have a lot of money.”

Or maybe you have a family member that thinks you owe them something just because you’re family. I have a feeling a lot of people see this version of peasant consciousness.

3. They have poverty of the heart.

These people are stingy as hell, even if it doesn’t cost them anything. For instance, let’s say they went to a restaurant and really liked it. But then they went on Yelp and gave the restaurant two stars instead of five.

Their peasant consciousness can’t allow them to give anything away, even if it’s free. They may have had a great experience with a personal trainer or a coach but then will complain about them.

These are also the people who will take a course or a book that they bought and try to copy it to resell. (Which is also known as stealing.)

And of course, we have our favorite scammers right here on Medium who try to steal the identity of certain writers (Britt Malka 🦊 in this case) and then ask people to join them on their WhatsApp or Telegram group.

(Meanwhile, if they didn’t have this mindset, they could just do this simple 2-step system and earn money. So much easier!)

4. They do peasant math.

These people squeeze out every morsel of blood, sweat, and tears from someone (or themselves) to make their purchase “worth it”.

Mina gives an example in the video of people who email her team to ask a question. One question about a product is fine. But these people will continuously email asking more and more questions. “What does this mean? And what does this do? And why do you have this?”

They suck every ounce of energy out of her team members by asking these nonsensical questions over and over again.

I’m also reminded of the people who grocery shop at one store and then drive 10 miles to Walmart to save $.50 on a couple of cans of beans.

They waste everyone’s precious time and energy, even their own.

5. They will try to take credit for your blessings.

If you become successful, these peasant people will try to take credit for it. “Remember that one time I paid for your dinner? Where would you be without me?”

Thankfully, I haven’t run into this personally, but I can imagine it happening a lot the more successful you become.

Final Thoughts

You know how people always say it’s easier to work with high-paying customers or clients versus low-paying ones? This is why.

People who have a peasant consciousness have a hard time spending money because they believe it’s scarce. So when they spend it, they have to suck all the energy out of their purchase so they can feel like it’s worth it.

People who have abundant mindsets know that more money will come to them and they don’t worry about it. They’re happy to pay for a product or service because they know there’s value in it.

I’ll be honest with you, I went to look into Mina’s courses, saw the prices, and said “Oh hell no!” I had my own version of peasant consciousness.

But then something really interesting happened…

You can read about that here.
