DIME BOMBSHELL
Pantera Meant to Write “Ducking” Hostile
Heavy metal satire

The song “Fucking Hostile” was meant to be titled “Ducking Hostile”!
In an unexpected development, Pantera frontman Phil Anselmo disclosed a dime-bombshell that occurred thirty years ago during post-production of the band’s iconic album Vulgar Display of Power: the intended title of “Fucking Hostile” was “Ducking Hostile”.
“The Kid” divulged this jaw-dropping note in a recent interview with Ripped to Shreds Magazine, saying:
“Goddamn, we were in the early days of the goddamn innernet — nobody knew a goddamn thing about fuckin’ auto-correct or any of that bullshit.
I could’ve sworn I emailed the right title and lyrics to Larry (Freemantle). The next thing I knew, I get the record in my hands on release day, and bam! There’s the goddamn album layout…track 4…‘Fucking’ instead of ‘Ducking’.
‘Ducking Hostile’ is about surviving the goddamn wars, man, avoiding confrontation; violence appalls me — war in the fuckin’ jungle, war against pussy cops, war with myself, wherever.” Anselmo continues on in his trademark baritone NOLA drawl. “Goddamn, ‘Fucking Hostile’ sounds, like, rapey, dude; that’s not the message I was trying to convey, but everyone thought the wrong title was catchier so we went with the motherfucker.”
Years have passed, and with auto-correcting AI adjusted. Today we deal with the puritanical annoyance of our “fucks” being turned into “ducks”. Exacerbating our anger in the process each time.
No wonder it seems people these days are particularly fucking hostile.
