The Corona Chronicles
Pandemic Playlist & Poetry Prompt
Let’s dance–let’s make poetry—let’s play!
Music is good for your health; it heals and connects us. Writing poetry is great for the brain; it improves cognitive function, alleviates emotional pain and leads us to greater self-awareness. Play relieves stress, stimulates the mind and boosts creativity.
Let’s combine them all—let’s battle!
The other day, I published Corona Extra: A poem and playlist for your pandemic dance-party, to which Yael Wolfe responded: We should all make playlists like Ena! Kristen Hill agreed, so we’re on!
How to join
- Create your own quarantine party playlist with a minimum of ten songs. The purpose of the playlist can be to act soothing or calming, to encourage us to dance our anxieties away, to make us laugh, or anything you want as long as it’s somehow related to the theme.
- Create a piece of found poetry, piecing together words and phrases from the songs in your playlist. You can use the titles, part of the lyrics, or both.
- Order the songs in the playlist according to the appearance of the words you choose in your poem.
- Create a new article in Medium, add your poem and embed your playlist. I personally recommend using Spotify. If you don’t have it yet, it’s easy to sign up and you get a three months advertising-free subscription upon joining.
- Tag at least 5 friends and writers on Medium that you wish to challenge to join. Submit the playlist to The Bad Influence and tag it #PandemicPlaylist.
I challenge you!
Kristen Hill, Demeter deLune, Yael Wolfe, Elle Beau ❇︎, Meaghan Ward, Xavier Van Holde, Reuben Salsa, Chris Hedges, FILZA CHAUDHRY & M. C. Frances — show me what you’ve got!
I’m planning a second playlist.
In the meantime, the two below are examples of past playlists:
Let’s play!
