The Corona Chronicles

Corona Extra

A poem and playlist for your pandemic dance-party

Just because we’re stuck at home, doesn’t mean we can’t party! In isolation, we’re forced to come up with new, creative ways to stay in touch with friends and family that we’re not able to see in person.

Just a few minutes ago, I logged off a video-conference-version of a girls’ night with three of my closest friends. While it’s obviously not the same as being together in one room, we’re fortunate to have access to technology that allows us to stay close and connected despite being physically separated.

Music, too, connects us and transcends physical boundaries. I made the following playlist today as an invitation to dance, laugh and come together.

I also did it because I love curating lists and collections of any kind and, ever since I created my Valentine’s special last month, I realized how much fun it is to make found poetry from song lyrics.

So here you go, another found poem in song titles—on-theme, of course. The poem is also the playlist, in order of appearance:

Corona Extra

A poem and playlist for your pandemic dance-party

Flu Season Around the world Time to get ill

Work from home I wear a mask So fresh, so clean

Isolation I think we’re alone now Dancing with myself

I touch myself You sound like you’re sick Don’t touch me

You touch me, I touch you back You be illin’

Infectious U can’t touch this You make me sick

Fever Burning up Night Fever

Help! I need a doctor Doctor! Doctor!

I’m sick y’all Down with the sickness Pray for me

Harder to breathe The final countdown Another one bites the dust

I’m still standing Mask off Breathe

Die another day Stayin’ alive I will survive

Currently shacked up with her (soon) five-year-old daughter, Ella, and her boyfriend of ten months, Jay, Ena Dahl reports regularly from their day-to-day lives in self-quarantine on the South East side of Berlin.

The Corona Chronicles will feature a collection of updates, poems, ponderings, short articles, and other literary pieces from these times while all three of them share a home for the first time.
