Palestinians’ Holocaust Remembrance Day Message to My Late Friend Otto Klein, a Mengele Twin Experiments Survivor
Holocaust Remembrance Day asks us to remember what Palestinians* and their leaders have consistently preferred we forget, deny, minimize and trivialize.
Here I juxtapose my late friend Otto Klein’s story of surviving Dr. Mengele’s twin experiments in Auschwitz with Hamas’ and the P.A. leaders’ and media’s denial and deflection of that story that has only one purpose: to make their genocidal delusion of “from the river to the sea” a reality. From David Irving to Nick Fuentes to Ahmedinejad all Holocaust denial is really a plan for the next one.
My generation thought our parents had permanently beaten genocidal barbarism in 1945. On October 7 we got definitive proof we were wrong with Hamas’ genocidal orgy of mass murder, necrophilic rape, torture, kidnapping. It was the largest murder of Jews since the Nazi death marches to nowhere from January to May 1945, another orgy of mass murder with genocidal intention and no military objective perpetrated in a lost war.
The cognitive bias called the recency effect led us to assume that our brief, but anomalous honeymoon from the murderous norm of two millennia of Jew hatred was a new normal. This was a common assumption whether you were Anglo-American, French, Russian, Canadian, Australian, Dutch or a repentant German and a non-amnesiac Austrian.
We knew there were other unfinished battles — against the American South’s segregation, South Africa’s apartheid, colonialism, the Berlin Wall and American interventionist hubris in Vietnam, Central America and Iraq. But we thought we’d never again see genocidal anti-semites allied with useful idiots the world over marching to:
- A genocidal Sydney opera house aria of “gas the Jews.”
- London’s Finchley Road “fuck the Jews, rape their daughters” caravan.
- “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free (of Jews).”
- And marchers with “keep the world clean” (of Jews) within spitting distance of the Warsaw ghetto’s Umschlagplatz.
We’d erroneously assumed 1945’s revelations of Nazi extermination camps, the Imperial Japanese Army’s Unit 731’s sadistic “medical” experiments and Mengele’s “medical” experiments on twins like my late friend had permanently vaccinated humanity against this virus.
We were wrong, but still don’t grasp why. Simply, we fail take this generation’s Islamist anti-Semites literally at their word and seriously when they openly state their genocidal intentions. Hamas does so openly….
While Palestinian leaders and media do so by framing their intentions as:
- Holocaust denial and trivialization: Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, the Middle East’s David Irving of academicized Shoah revisionism, blames Zionism for Otto Klein’s deportation to Auschwitz and Mengele selecting his parents to be gassed:
Abbas’ Holocaust revisionism does not deny that the Holocaust happened or that it is one of the worst crimes in history. The question he raises is who is guilty of this crime; he posits that blaming the Nazis is only “half the truth.” According to Abbas, the Zionists collaborated in killing a large number of European Jews in order to encourage the rest to embrace Zionism and emigrate to Palestine.

- Abbas’ claim that “Israel had carried out “50 massacres; 50 holocausts.”
- Blaming Jews for the Shoah
“”They say that Hitler killed the Jews for being Jews, and that Europe hated the Jews because they were Jews. No. It was clearly explained that they fought them because of their social role and not their religion,” Mr Abbas says at one point. Later, he specifies that he was referring to the role of Jews involving “usury, money and so on”.
Hold these three Palestinian* views of the Holocaust simultaneously in your mind:
- It didn’t happen.
- If it did occur, Blame the Jews for collaborating in it.
- And the Jews are guilty of doing to us what either didn’t happen to them or what was their fault if it did.
And these are the people Israel is supposed to negotiate a two state solution with.
The Metastasizing Planetary Populist Anti-Semitism Virus
The ascent to power of authoritarian, nativist, ultra-nationalist or xenophobic parties and leaders to power in Hungary, Russia, Turkey, Poland, the Philippines, Brazil, Italy, Israel, India and in 2016, at the center of the tottering liberal international order, the USA.

Otto Klein and Civilization’s Thin Red Line
My late Swiss-Hungarian Jewish friend Otto Klein turned his torture and survival in Auschwitz into a permanent warning against the danger posed by the millennia old anti-Semitism virus through media interviews and witnessing in schools. Anti-Semitism is unique as the only hatred that is:
- Planetary, existing where no Jews live, as in Japan (see “The Jews in the Japanese Mind).
- An obsessive conspiracy theory about how hidden power in the world works (the Protocols of the Elders of Zion).
- Views the target of its prejudice as superior and more powerful instead of inferior.
A Swiss friend and I went with Otto when he returned a fourth time to Auschwitz in November 2000 to tell 150 Swiss schoolteachers his story. Swiss B’nai Brith organized this trip to vaccinate Swiss society against a spike in anti-semitism during the legal claims of Swiss banks’ theft of Shoah victims’ dormant accounts.
That an Auschwitz survivor had to return to where Mengele selected his parents to be gassed in order to teach Swiss teachers how to teach about it showed there is no cure for the 2000 year old anti-Semitism virus, only imperfect hibernation and suppression through eternal vigilance and education.
Otto Klein, and his twin brother Ferenc, were born on June 7, 1932 in Hajduboszormeny, eastern Hungary. The brothers always considered January 27, the day the Red Army liberated Auschwitz, as their real birthdays.
It was the date they stopped owing their lives to Dr. Josef Mengele and his obsession with twins. It was the date the experiments that burned their eyes and ruined their teeth stopped and the twins were freed from a dystopian Nazi system had its child victims telling SS guards, “if you threaten me again, I’ll tell Dr. Mengele.”
Mengele was both the twins’ protector and their parents’ killer. Each component of this system designed to extinguish Jewish life at industrial scale had an inverted morality designed to envelope even its few survivors that it unintentionally spared. Otto and his brother survived knowing they owed their lives to their privileged status within the inverted moral order created by Himmler, Eichmann and Dr. Mengele to carry out Hitler’s Final Solution. Mengele never intended to spare a single one of the twins he experimented on.
The French and the Italians call January 27 “the Day of Memory,” and commemorate it nationwide with their dwindling population of survivors and presidents in ceremonies at sites of deportations and on serious TV coverage. In doing so, they seek to vaccinate their futures against the more than 2500 year old lethal virus of antisemitism (yes, Jew hatred predates Christianity, but that’s another story). Consider my telling one survivor’s story a small contribution to this vaccination process.
Vaccination Against Hate as Antisemitism Spreads Globally
The now famous Sydney opera house aria, “gas the Jews,” is just the latest outbreak of a planetary pandemic of Jew hatred:
According to a recent survey of American Millenial and Gen Z adults aged 18–39, 23% said they believed the Holocaust was a myth, had been exaggerated or they weren’t sure. More than 10% believe Jews caused the Holocaust.
- Almost 2/3 of young American adults do not know that 6 million Jews were killed during the Holocaust.
- 1 in 8 surveyed had never heard of the Holocaust.
- 48% in the same survey could not name a single WWII concentration camp or ghetto.
- 56% had seen Nazi symbols on their social media platforms and/or in their communities. 49% had seen Holocaust denial or distortion posts on social media or elsewhere online. 36% believed fewer than 2 million or fewer Jews had been killed.
In 2014 the Anti-Defamation League conducted surveys on attitudes toward Jews in 100 countries comprising 96.9% of global GDP, 88.4% of the world’s adult population on all continents except South America.
The survey was updated in at least 18 countries in 2015, 2017 and 2019. The survey asked at least 500 participants in each country to respond to anti-Jewish stereotypes and measured the percentage of respondents who answered yes to at least six statements that portray Jews as exercising hidden, conspiratorial, global power:
- Jews are more loyal to Israel than to (this country). (41% said yes).
- Jews have too much power in the business world. (35% yes)
- Jews have too much power in international financial markets. (34% yes)
- Jews don’t care about what happens to anyone but their own kind. (33% yes)
- Jews have too much control over global affairs. (29% said yes)
- People hate Jews because of the way Jews behave. (32% said yes)
- Jews think they are better than other people. (25% said yes)
- Jews have too much control over the United States government. (24% said yes)
- Jews have too much control over the global media. (25% said yes)
- Jews still talk too much about what happened to them in the Holocaust. (30% said yes)
- Jews are responsible for most of the world’s wars (23% said yes).
Answering yes to at least 6/11 statements defined a respondent as harboring anti-Semitic attitudes. Globally, 29% of men and 24% of women answered yes to at least 6/11 statements. 17% of Buddhists, 24% of Christians and 49% of Muslims answered yes to at least 6/11. 34% of Eastern Europeans, 24% of Western Europeans, 22% of Asians and 14% of Oceania (Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands) and 74% of the Middle East and North Africa scored as anti-semitic. 48% of Poles, 46% of Ukrainians, in whose countries most of the Holocaust was carried out with widespread local collaboration, scored as anti-Semitic. Responses differed little between those aged 18–34 and those over 50.
The Hamas-P.A. good cop-bad cop routine is a fraud. The P.A. is just barely more competent at hiding the Islamist roots of its genocidal “from the river to the sea” goal:

They’ve been telling us for nearly 140 years what the conflict is about. All these massacres of Jews happened long before there was any Israel, IDF, occupation. “From the river to the sea” still means “not a single Jew”:
The only difference between today’s Palestinians* and their German predecessors their 1940s leaders were allied with is power and reach. But the reach of the genocidal Russia/Iran/North Korea/Houthi/Hizbullah/ Hamas/P.A. Axis of Extermination and its western useful idiots is growing.
What protects today’s Jews in London, Sydney, Cambridge, Tel Aviv and Toronto from an evolving global pogrom is the reach of the truth about what they really want. All you need to do to see that clearly is to listen to what their media and leaders say. Ninety years ago we didn’t and Otto Klein met Mengele. **Chief among them was Grand Mufti Haj Amin al-Husseini, a key founder of the Palestinian national movement and preeminent Islamic jurist who enthusiastically championed Nazism following Hitler’s rise. Relations between the mufti and the Third Reich’s highest-ranking officials went beyond moral support — it was a sadistic partnership.
Reflecting on his time in Berlin as a consultant for Hitler, al-Husseini wrote in his memoirs, “I asked Hitler for an explicit undertaking to allow us to solve the Jewish problem in a manner befitting our national and racial aspirations and according to the scientific methods innovated by Germany in the handling of its Jews. The answer I got was: ‘The Jews are yours.’”
A photograph of Hitler and Husseini discussing the Final Solution is, generally speaking, the extent of people’s seemingly limited understanding of their collaboration. Almost without exception, peddlers of the Israel-Nazi comparisons fail to acknowledge, for example, the mufti’s complicity in (if not responsibility for) the deaths of an estimated 84,000 Jews, including 4,000 children. As the associate director of the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting and Analysis (CAMERA) Alex Safian has documented, “The mufti influenced the Germans to directly prevent the escape of Jews who otherwise might have survived the war, and he provoked his followers to violence in the Palestine Mandate.”
