Overwatch League - Best Performances for Each Hero in Stage 1 (Part 2 of 2)

Introduction

As Blizzard does not yet allow public access to the entirety of stats for the Overwatch League, I have been collecting all of the broadcasted stats by hand in an effort to organize them and get the most out of what’s accessible. I have created a spreadsheet that contains all of the available data from the first stage of play, averaged them, extrapolated them based on time, and will be sharing a weekly summary of those statistics.

This week I will be reviewing the first stage of the Overwatch League games. In this two-part feature, I will be highlighting the best performances coming out of the first five weeks of play. These will be specific to each hero, and to give context to the broadcasted end-of-game stats - as well as to allow for easy comparison - I have adjusted all of the numbers to a ‘per 10 minute’ basis. I will then compare each game against the average, and share the top statistical performances for each hero.

To not skew the results, I will only be including games where the player has at least five minutes of playtime on that hero. Additionally, there are only 14 heroes which have sufficient data to review. To make things a little more manageable for me, I will be splitting them up into groups of seven for the purposes of these write-ups. The heroes that I will be reviewing today are: Pharah, Roadhog, Soldier: 76, Tracer, Widowmaker, Winston, and Zenyatta. Last week I reviewed: D.Va, Genji, Junkrat, Lucio, McCree, Mercy, and Orisa, and you can find that article here.

So let’s get started!

PHARAH

The top Pharah performance from Stage 1 - VOD: Twitch / OWL

Dreamkazper has been one of the biggest stand-out players coming out of Stage 1. While his DPS partner-in-crime, Striker, sticks almost exclusively to Tracer, Dreamkazper has played up to eight different heroes in a single match - and he performs at a high level on all of them.

Against Dallas on Ilios, he was on pace for nearly 18,000 damage per 10 minutes, in large part to his 30% direct rocket accuracy (both stats leading the league for a single game).

The top-10 Pharah performances from Stage 1

Best of the Rest: Dreamkazper and Agilities had an epic Pharah duel on Eichenwalde in Week 4, putting up the two longest times on Pharah (17:11 and 18:00, respectively). Ultimately, like in these rankings, Dreamkazper and his team came out on top.

ROADHOG

The top Roadhog performance from Stage 1 - VOD: Twitch / OWL

Remember when I said that Dreamkazper is good at a lot of heroes? Boasting a whopping 88% hook accuracy (and 30% weapon accuracy, which is also well above average), Dreamkazper and his team crushed Florida on Oasis in Week 1.

Oh, and by the way, they did that without a Mercy for the entire map, opting instead for a line-up of Reinhardt, Zarya, Roadhog, McCree, Lucio, and Moira - a composition that Florida just couldn’t figure out an answer to.

The top-5 Roadhog performances from Stage 1 - due to limited sample size

Best of the Rest: Mickie’s Roadhog play on Junkertown against San Francisco in Week 3 not only helped secure Dallas’ first victory of the season, it also marked the only time the Player of the Match accolade has been awarded based on performance with Roadhog.

SOLDIER: 76

The top Soldier: 76 performance from Stage 1 - VOD: Twitch / OWL

With both the highest accuracy and eliminations per 10 minutes, Wekeed and his team beat Shanghai on Numbani in Week 3.

The match itself seemed to be close, but I have to imagine that Seoul weren’t treating the Dragons as a real threat (considering this is the same map where Seoul wasted a minute-and-a-half on attack with Ryujehong playing Pharah).

The top-5 Soldier: 76 performances from Stage 1 - due to limited sample size

Best of the Rest: As you can see, the majority of the time that Soldier: 76 sees play is on Numbani, so I’ll take this opportunity to give a shout-out to the two performances that were both outside of Numbani, and over 5 minutes: Logix on Dorado against Shanghai, and Libero on Oasis against London (in the Stage 1 Finals). Both performances were statistically below average, so I guess maybe that’s why we don’t see more of that.

TRACER

And after that short break we’re back to Boston! In the same match referenced in last week’s top D.Va Performance from his teammate Kalios, Striker also put up some absurd numbers against San Francisco on Horizon Lunar Colony.

With 7 Pulse Bomb kills, Striker (tied with Soon) is just one below the highest in a single game, at 8, which Striker (tied with Effect) also claims the record of. Better than that, 8.22 Pulse Bomb kills per 10 minutes is the best out of any eligible game, and the next closest is only 6.83 (also Striker).

Best of the Rest: To highlight some stiffer competition, Profit put up 11,528 damage per 10 minutes against Seoul. That’s an impressive amount of damage, and even higher than those in the top-10 - but it’s not the highest overall. That distinction would go either to Danteh’s performance against Florida, where he played for less than 10 minutes but was on pace for 12,777 damage; or Effect’s performance against Philadelphia, where he played for over 10 minutes and averaged 12,687 damage. All three cases took place on Ilios in Week 3.

WIDOWMAKER

The top Widowmaker performance from Stage 1 - VOD: Twitch / OWL

“Finland’s Gift to E-Sports” shows off his ‘better-than-good aim’ in a Week 3 trouncing of the Florida Mayhem.

While Linkzr remarkably places at both 1st and 3rd in the top-10 list below, had the cut-off point been lowered by just 30 seconds, he would have taken 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th place.

The top-10 Widowmaker performances from Stage 1

Best of the Rest: Birdring comes in at 11th place with his stellar performance against New York on Horizon Lunar Colony in the Stage 1 Finals. Winning that map would begin London’s reverse-sweep and being crowned Stage 1 Champions.

WINSTON

The top Winston performance from Stage 1 - VOD: Twitch / OWL

Tired of Boston, yet? Of the 14 heroes I’ve reviewed, Boston has claimed the top spot on six of them - nearly half! Now you may be thinking, “Oh, well they probably just had one really lopsided game where all of these stats are coming from,” but that’s not the case at all. Of their six top performances, five of them are against different opponents - and as a reminder, Boston didn’t even get to play against Shanghai in Stage 1.

Here we see Gamsu making his case as one of the best main tanks in the league, with his performance as the only Winston to record double-digit ultimate kills in a single map in Stage 1 (and his 8.90 ultimate kills per 10 minutes outpaces all other games so far this season, regardless of length).

The top-10 Winston performances from Stage 1

Best of the Rest: London’s Gesture was 10th on the list, but just behind him was London’s other main tank, Fissure, at 11th, for his performance against the L.A. Valiant on Dorado in Week 2. With rumors of Fissure headed to the Gladiators, the Spitfire-Gladiators match-up in Stage 2 could get a lot more interesting.

ZENYATTA

The top Zenyatta performance from Stage 1 - VOD: Twitch / OWL

The same match in which Linkzr landed the top-Widowmaker spot, Rawkus earns the same for Zenyatta.

As an aside, I did not include Transcendence Healing in my calculations (which was also the case for Deflect Damage for Genji), as it’s already accounted for in the total Healing Done, plus it’s a statistic in which there’s a high level of disparity between players - so performing particularly well at it could overshadow an otherwise lackluster performance.

With that said, Rawkus’ 4,729.80 transcendence healing per 10 minutes was also the second highest recorded in Stage 1 (behind Harryhook on Numbani vs New York), so had I included that metric in my ‘percent above average’ calculations, he would have been #1 by an even larger margin.

The top-10 Zenyatta performances from Stage 1

Best of the Rest: For the “Bloodthristy Zenyatta” fans out there, Jjonak (unsurprisingly) holds the record for the highest damage per 10 minutes in Stage 1, with 10,048 damage versus Houston on Temple of Anubis in Week 1. To highlight his dominance in this statistic, Jjonak claims 7 of the top 11 performances.
