According to Charlie Brooker, we may have missed the point of Black Mirror.
The most popular episodes rely so deeply on tech-gone-wrong that non-tech episodes can feel off brand, but in an interview for Wired, creator Charlie Brooker explained why Black Mirror is as likely to focus on premises about ****ed up technology as it is about the ****ed up people who use it.
Amit Katwala: [A] few of the stories in the new season barely touch on technology or other traditional Black Mirror topics at all.
Charlie Brooker: We weren’t meant to be “this is what’s going on in technology this week.” It was always designed to be a more paranoid and weird and hopefully unique show… [It’s] just that the stories that appeal to me seem to often be about … inauthenticity of experience would be one way of describing it.
We did “Metalhead,” which was about robot AI dogs going around killing people — fair enough, that’s the technology. But in the “Entire History of You,” the memory playback episode, it’s this jealous and insecure husband who fucks up his own life. It’s not generally the fault of the technology within the stories.

If you’re watching Black Mirror and run out of episodes, the 2017 movie OtherLife (and everything else on the below list) is indistinguishable from the very best episodes of Black Mirror.
To me, this movie shows that what fell flat about Don't Worry Darling wasn't the tech behind the twist but how the twist was revealed. OtherLife and DWD don't have anything close to the same story, just in the sense that the premise behind the tech in both movies is sort of similar.
OtherLife could even be seen as a prequel to the Black Mirror holiday episode “White Christmas.”
You could also see this as sort of the origins of Total Recall technology.

Writing for Vulture, Angelica Jade Bastién described the episode by saying:
In it, Sisko, science officer Lieutenant Jadzia Dax (a luminescent Terry Farrell), and Dr. Julian Bashir (the always amazing Alexander Siddig) are thrust about 300 years into the past because of a transporter malfunction. San Francisco in 2024 is a harrowing landscape in which the homeless are sectioned off from society, poverty is rampant, and racism is still very much a reality. It’s fascinating watching how each Starfleet officer contends with the thorny political moment as well as the lengths Sisko goes to ensure that the future remains intact. As men of color, Sisko and Bashir contend with racism in ways they never have to in their daily lives, as it is a thing of the past in Earth’s 24th century. As Robert Greene II wrote for the Atlantic, “‘Past Tense’ was notable for depicting racism not from the perspective of a well-meaning white liberal, as seen in previous iterations of Star Trek, but through the eyes of people of color directly threatened by violence and indifference.”

What makes Deep Space Nine such an amazing series are its rich performances from a cast of actors with no weak links, adding an important dimension to the emotional reality of the series. This is true of everyone from silent supporting figures like Morn to crucial antagonists like Kai Winn to Starfleet officers like Chief of Operations Miles O’Brien (Colm Meaney), who was introduced on The Next Generation but came into his own on Deep Space Nine. Many episodes that focus on O’Brien put him through an existential, often surreal hell. “Whispers” is definitely part of that tradition, as O’Brien returns from an away mission to find his wife, Keiko (Rosalind Chao), and his colleagues treating him with strange suspicion. Taking inspiration from films like The Parallax View and Invasion of the Body Snatchers, “Whispers” creates a miasma of dread that builds to a gut punch of a surprise ending.
- “Duet”
Again turning to Angelica Jade Bastién for the description:
“Duet” fleshes out one of the best characters in the series, Kira Nerys (a fierce Nana Visitor), a Bajoran former freedom fighter (or terrorist, depending on who you ask) who now acts as the first officer aboard the station. She confronts the past of her people when a Cardassian she suspects to be a war criminal boards the station looking for medical help. “Duet” eschews any subplot to focus entirely on the morality play between Kira and a man she believes is responsible for hideous crimes against her people during the war. In doing so, it introduces a host of fascinating themes about the nature of war and its aftermath that are consistently explored throughout the run of the series.
- “Second Skin”
Again turning to Angelica Jade Bastién for the description:
What if you woke up with a face that is not your own and told the life you’ve been leading is a cleverly constructed lie? From the very beginning, Kira Nerys is a complex woman who ties much of her identity to being a Bajoran — her role as a freedom fighter in the war to regain her planet provides the backstory to the series. “Second Skin” centers on Kira being kidnapped by Cardassians, whom she has long viewed as enemies given their long occupation of her home planet, and told she’s really a Cardassian spy who took over the life of the real Kira Nerys, and was implanted with false memories to make the deception more authentic. Tinged with a Philip K. Dick–inspired approach to identity, “Second Skin” further evolves Kira in ways that are both poignant and existentially profound.
- “The Visitor”

[A]fter a freak accident on the USS Defiant seemingly kills Sisko… Jake dedicates his life to finding a way to save his father. We watch Jake grow into a man (played with melancholy and yearning by Tony Todd) who becomes a writer and scientist watching his marriage disintegrate because of his harried quest to save his father.

When he arrives home, Matt first bleeds from the cuts the dead man suffers, then his skin changes. By the time he gets back home, he has transformed into the dead man.

- “Nightmare at 30,000 Feet”
After accepting a job offer, PTSD-afflicted journalist Justin Sanderson boards Northern Goldstar Airlines Flight 1015. He discovers an MP3 player in his seat pocket and finds it contains a podcast about “the mystery of Northern Goldstar Flight 1015”, which disappeared an hour into the flight. As the podcast accurately describes the progressing flight, Justin juggles control of his nerves and confides in Joe Beaumont, a former pilot who lost his job for crashing a previous airplane and seems to be the only person who takes him seriously. He tries using clues from the podcast to avert the disaster, but every attempt results in increasing irritation and suspicion toward him.
- “Replay”
While at a roadside diner with her college-bound son Dorian, Nina Harrison discovers that her old family camcorder has the power to turn back time when she presses the rewind button and that she is the only one aware of it. A racist state trooper notices them at the diner and later pulls them over for speeding and becoming violent with them. Nina rewinds time and convinces Dorian to pull over before stopping, but Officer Lasky instead menaces them for not pulling over properly. Nina repeatedly attempts to change events.
- “Six Degrees of Freedom”
The crew of the Bradbury spacecraft, led by Alexa Brandt, decide to head for the planet Mars after nuclear war breaks out on earth. But soon into their voyage, the crew members begin to turn on one another. What starts as paranoia may prove to be a window into what really happened on earth.
- “Blurryman”
After rewriting the opening narration for an episode of The Twilight Zone starring Seth Rogen and Betty Gabriel for Jordan Peele, screenwriter and Twilight Zone fan Sophie Gelson discovers someone changed it to be about her.
- “Downtime”
Michelle Weaver, an overachieving hotel clerk, gets promoted to manager. The same day, she is startled by a giant orb that appears in the sky, causing everyone but Michelle to stand still and enter a seemingly catatonic state. Running home, she encounters a police officer who advises her to “wake up.” At home, her husband inexplicably begins speaking in an unfamiliar accent before he too walks outside and enters into the same state. Two young men with skateboards enter her house and introduce themselves as “customer service”. They explain that she is in a virtual reality game called SleepAway that people enter when sleeping and that she is actually a man named S. Phineas Howell.
- “Among the Untrodden”
An awkward teenage girl named Irene transfers to Saint Mary’s Boarding School in the middle of the school year. A clique of popular girls at the school led by a girl named Madison immediately conspire to harass and bully Irene. While working on her school science fair project, Irene becomes convinced that Madison has psychic abilities and sets out to convince her.
