Otherworldly beaches in Crete, Greece

Geology has really sculptured art on the western beaches of this island.

My two last articles featured views of Santorini, one of two Greek islands I’ve just visited.

Here in this new article is my highlight of Crete, the largest and most populated of the Greek islands, focusing on three beaches of stunning geological beauty.

Balos -the best beach in the whole Mediterranean?

Down there, as you see in the lead photo you have the main beach with flat waters. And on the side there are many small entries like this one:

Elafonissi -also in my top 5 of Mediterranean beaches

Both in Elafonissi and in Balos, you’ll find red sediments on the crystal-clear shores:

Falasarna -beautiful beach with simple accommodation

From which you can reach the other beaches of the west, i.e. Balos and Elafonissi.
