A beginning of a new month. In the Sinhala language, this month is referred to as ‘BAK,’ which translates to the blessed month or the month of happiness.

So, I hope that all of you have a wonderful time filled with joy and happiness.

Priyanka Priyadarshini, my sister from another mother — hopefully, she will allow it, asked me to name 50 things I love most. Initially, I doubted doing this because opening up to others was not a welcomed thought of mine.

But after thinking further, I understood that I have started to do the same through my writing. So, It is difficult to separate my identity anymore. In addition, reviewing things I love will help me return to my memory lane and find something to write.

Therefore, here we go, opening up through these 50 things. Not grouped by descending order the way I love, simply a categorized index to make this easy.

  1. Home — In both its people and the place itself, I love spending time in my own space with my loved ones.
  2. Work — My job as a civil engineer, great colleagues, and a fantastic boss make me love what I do.
  3. Alma Maters — My education and the memories associated with it have helped shape me into who I am today.
  4. My Language, Sinhala — As a language, it is rich and diverse and a source of pride.
  5. Religion and Culture — Embracing my religious and cultural values. It helps me develop my identity and worldview.
  6. My Country, Sri Lanka — For its beauty and history, despite the challenges we face with political corruption.
  7. Book Collection — It is small, but rich in value. I love re-reading them.
  8. Cricket — As our second religion.
  9. Card Games — Started during University and continues with games like Omi, Kits, Poter, Jabora, Poker, etc.
  10. Board Games — Playing traditional Sri Lankan board games and classics like Chess, Mahjong, Scrabble, Uno, and Monopoly.
  11. Aquarium Fish Keeping — My precious aquarium fish collection, includes Koi, Flowerhorns, Tiger Barbs, and Malawi.
  12. Age of Empires — Playing this game was one of my all-time favorite hobbies, and it’s only rivaled by Call of Duty as my second favorite game.
  13. Blogging — Sharing my thoughts and experiences. Now on Medium and earlier on Blogspot.
  14. Reading — I’m an avid reader and enjoy exploring different genres. However, I’m pretty picky about what I read.
  15. Coming of Ages Genre — This genre is one of my favorites, mainly limited books. Laura, Anne, Emily, Little Women, Caroline Days, Rose Years, and many others are my particular favorites.
  16. Detective Genre — Books and shows like Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot, and Perry Mason.
  17. Western Genre — Mostly the films
  18. Fictional Universes — Middle Earth, Percy Jackson, Hogwarts, Westeros, Witcher, Avatar [Last Air Bender], Star Wars, and many more.
  19. Comics — A big fan of comic book movies and comic books, both DC & Marvel and other publications too.
  20. Short Stories — From Russia, France, and Early America.
  21. Historical Fiction — Different eras, including the Victorian Era, before and after the French Revolution, and stories from Africa by Edgar Rice Burroughs, Rider Haggard, and much more.
  22. Mathematics — Theories and Applications. I like to watch ‘Numberphile’ and ‘Mathloger’ videos that describe different mathematical concepts.
  23. Project Management — Not only because it is my carrier. I am interested in this field and find learning about different project management techniques and methodologies fascinating.
  24. Languages — Unique properties of different languages. I enjoy learning about them, even if it’s not to become fluent.
  25. Astronomy — My childhood love for astronomy. It has never faded, and I still enjoy exploring the mysteries of the universe.
  26. Poetry — I love reading and writing poetry and experimenting with different formats.
  27. Music — I have a diverse taste in music, including Sinhala classics, reggaeton, and some selected English singers.
  28. Social Media — Facebook, Youtube, and Reddit, mostly.
  29. Nicely Processed Set of Data — I find it satisfying to nicely process and categorize data like the way ‘Usefulcharts’ and ‘General Knowledge’ are published.
  30. Memories of Past Loves — Because they are part of my identity.
  31. Memories with My Love — Since I want to keep them forever.
  32. Memories of Childhood — Childhood memories are special to me, and I enjoy recalling and sharing them with others.
  33. Unhealthy Food — I love Koththu, Fried Rice, and Short Eats, and the list continues.
  34. Wife’s Spicy Curries — My wife’s spicy curries. She can cook deliciously.
  35. My Mother’s Cooking — I love everything she makes.
  36. Fruits and Desserts — A big fruit platter after a meal if I could have one. And I also love treats like treacle and curd or a thick piece of Watallappan (jaggery pudding).
  37. Afternoon Naps — Taking a little nap after lunch since it is a rare luxury.
  38. Window Seats — When traveling, I love sitting in a window seat.
  39. Assisting my mother with her gardening work — The easiest way to make her happy.
  40. Making my wife angry over a small matter — Is a very easy thing.
  41. Those cute little chubby white and brown cat couple’s GIF and short reels — To calm my wife’s anger.
  42. Engaging in brainstorming sessions about an exciting topic — Some times for hours.
  43. Those 10 or 15 minutes in the morning after waking up but before getting out of bed — The most favorite time of the day.
  44. Self-satisfaction — After a feel-good work.
  45. Maintaining my stubborn attitude — To make others annoying, especially my wife.
  46. Coffee and Tea — In a large mug.
  47. To buy small-small things — Once I have got a little money.
  48. To give some things to the one who needs them — Since we didn’t have much in childhood. So know the feeling.
  49. You — For your support throughout this journey.
  50. Every single memory of my elder brother — As the final one.

I think even my close friends have not understood my preference at this level. You will get to read some of these things through my future posts.
