Discussions about sexuality helps to break down stigmas and taboos, leading to more inclusivity

Before I came to Medium, I used to have a popular WordPress website called Sex Matters. It was a personal blog and I also published guest posts. We would discuss how sex mattered in a relationship and all matters to do with sex.

The site often tackled these kinds of …

Sex Matters topics:

  • Sexuality
  • Sex education
  • Sexual health
  • Personal experiences
  • Pleasure and pain
  • Diversity
  • Masturbation
  • Sex & Society
  • Dating & Relationships
  • Body positivity
  • The impact of porn
  • Religion and sex
  • Taboo/kink issues
  • Media influences

And lots more.

I stopped the blog last year as there is only so many hours in the day. But these topics are very important for several reasons:

Sex Education

Sex education provides us with the knowledge and skills to make informed decisions about sexual health. It is a great way to learn about consent and boundaries in relationships. Not to mention, open conversations about sexuality helps break down stigmas and taboos, leading to more inclusivity.

Of course, there is another reason matters of sex should be discussed in an open and informative way — to prepare young people for adulthood.

Because I really do think growing up is so hard to do, I have a publication here on Medium where I post my memoirs from when I was at secondary school. I am covering various issues such as bullying, first dates and kisses. that kind of thing.

You can find it all here if you so wish:

Back to Sex Matters…

When I closed the blog I knew I would bring the idea onto Medium eventually but wasn’t sure how to tackle it.

A while ago, Medium outed the sexuality tag/topic. What I mean is they let certain posts about sexuality have a wider reach and even some were boosted. But I am sorry to say they have recently put the topic back on the naughty step… Although your network and those who follow any tags you use or the magazine where you publish will see your article — but not a wider audience.

You can read the Medium blog post about it here.

However, I am not going to let this halt my efforts to share and promote the one thing in life which is as important as food… Come on, sex and sexuality are a part of life and who we are. Medium claim to want the personal viewpoint in articles, yet are not prepared to go the extra mile to work out how sex education/sexuality stories can be promoted generally, but rather treat it as a topic we should be ashamed of wanting to highlight.

Discussing Matters to do with Sex

Hopefully your posts will lead us to say ‘mmm’ because we are licking our lips in thought or desire.

I have got together with one of the wonderful editors from Tantalizing Tales — Mrs. K. We have known each other for many years. I’ve been a sleeping editor on her magazine, MmmMondays, for a while. It is a publication that welcomes stories all about things that matter to you in life… which make you say mmm. Like food and sex! Something for everyone.

We have played with the layout a little so that it now incorporates a feature page which will deal with — Sex Matters.

You can find the posts here. Or by clicking on my redirected old domain name: https://ifsexmatters.co.uk/

Mrs K will be dealing with all the other life matters topics but I would love for you to send me in your best sex matters articles or real-life sex experiences, if they relate to the topics mentioned at the start of this post, and hopefully make us say mmm for one of these two reasons — because they are sexy or because they make us think.

Helping Hand

I have created another profile Juniper Less who will be handling all the sex matters admin and writing many of the articles too. May More is already spread pretty thin, and I am conscious of wanting to make sure my reads count for you all.

MmmMondays, incorporating Sex Matters, is part of the Cocktail Club group of publications:

This means writers are treated with respect and your work is promoted on TwitterX and substack each week.

Lets Rock!

We already have a small archive of Sex Matters articles for you to get stuck into but are thrilled to launch the first week with posts by Simone Francis, Ryan and an old friend, Kinky Katie — as well as Juniper.

I would love to publish your post on the magazine, although AI articles are a big fat NO.

Will just tag a few here — other than the Cocktail Club team — who may be interested — Teresa Wymore 🏳️‍🌈, Laura, JK Mill, Celia McKinley, Asrai Devin, Alex, Glenn M Stewart F. Leonora Solomon, J. Sharland Day— and YOU!

(AI images are OK to use, plus other photos with a copyright caption.)

Please follow MmmMondays and subscribe to Juniper — so you are kept up with all the mmm-Sex-Matters gossip.
