You signed up for a job. Your name and reputation are on the line to perform at the best of your ability. Therefore, you must remain diligent. As you walk your sector the races begin.
The horses bolt from the starting line. Their hooves beat into the dirt as they round the curve and blow past you. The wind whooshes past and you can’t help but join the crowd in cheering.
As the race comes to an end and a winner is declared you notice a man and a merchant arguing. Things appear to be escalating quickly so you hurry over to calm the situation.
“You owe me!” The merchant cried out.
“I ain’t paying you nothing,” the man growled with fists raised. “You cheated!”
You wonder how one could cheat while placing bets on a horse race, but you have to act quickly. The man appears to be growing violent and you have to maintain the peace!
Encounter: angry townsfolk
Challenge rating: Easy (Roll 10+)If you fight the main with deadly force use brawn or magic. If you fail, reduce your health by one point.If you subdue the man with non-lethal force use brawn but take a -1 unarmed penalty to your roll. If you fail, reduce your health by one point.If you try to talk everyone down from a fight use charm. If you fail you can try a second time with a difficulty of 15. If both attempts fail you must fight.If you fought with deadly force…
You noticed the man had a dagger in his belt loop. Who brings a dagger to a horse race? With your combat expertise, you quickly end the man’s life but as you turn to face the crowd you’re met with shocked and horrified expressions.
More of the town guards finally arrive to help but instead, they place you in shackles. This wasn’t how it was supposed to happen. You were supposed to be their hero…

You noticed the man had a dagger in his belt loop. Who brings a dagger to a horse race? You must maintain the peace and manage to wrestle the man to the ground and pin him down until help arrives.
“Great work!” One of the town’s guards says as they place shackles on the man.

If you talked everyone down…
You noticed the man had a dagger in his belt loop. Who brings a dagger to a horse race? This doesn’t have to end in violence and thankfully you can be pretty slick with your words. You manage to calm things down and explain to the man how horse betting works.
He realizes his blunder and apologies profusely for causing a scene. He pays the merchant and quickly leaves with his head hung low.
The merchant thanks you for your help in the matter and tosses a few coins your way.
