This is a continuation of The Burned Village, a ‘choose your own’ fiction story, “drabble edition,” initially created by JF Danskin. Check out the previous installment, Shots in the Dark, or find out how to contribute by clicking here.

There’s not a chance you’re letting the orc escape!

You draw the bow and aim at the fleeing warrior. You take a breath and let the arrow fly. It whistles through the air, but it’s obvious that it will land short of its intended target.

Scruff closes in on the orc, putting himself directly into the path of the falling projectile.

As Scuff is about to leap at his quarry, the arrow flits past his nose and sinks into the dirt. The dog yelps in surprise and abandons the chase, running back to Bruno with his tail between his legs.
