Ode to a Dream Not Realized
The outer universe still brings joy

Long ago, as a child, Dreaming of the moon and stars, I thought of traveling there one day, Going into the dark unknown.
I stared at the face of the moon, Through the thick glass of a telescope, Yearning to travel there, Exploring the crevices and valleys.
I stayed up late in a sleeping bag, Connecting to the falling stars, Wishing upon their shimmer, To visit this magical place.
Daring to read a complicated text, Through articles too advanced for me, Gleaning what I could to understand, The exquisite light of the moon.
Charting the constellations, On wheel given as a gift, Hoping for a glimpse Of the magical place beyond this Earth.
Alas, I made a different choice, To stay with my feet planted on the ground, I love you still, dear moon, As you fill the sky with light.
When I was a child one of my early career choices was to become an astronaut. When I learned about the rigorous training involved, I decided against it. I used to subscribe to Science News, as a grade-schooler! I still am in love with science, space, and the stars. They allow me to dream and imagine a world beyond our own.
