October Photography: Dark, Black and White, Noir
October prompt and challenge on In Living Color

So far, I’ve been a little on the fence about running writing challenges. I know there are already plenty going on. However, October has inspired me to try it out here on In Living Color.
This is because I have such an affinity for dark, black and white and noir photography. Love it! Just like all those old noir movies and shows— Alfred Hitchcock and The Twilight Zone.
I don’t like blood and guts or anything like that, I just like the mood and the colors. There’s a lot of argument about whether black and white are actual colors… I say yes.
The first photo above of Baldwin Park in Orlando I took in both color and black and white. I love both, but there’s something about the black and white that just makes things more dramatic. You can really see the details well, as Ronald C. Flores-Gunkle wrote about here: “Fade to Black…and White”.

Here’s another dramatic photo of a little bird alone and high up on a wire with the dark trees below and the cloudy sky in the background.

This is a photo I took last year while celebrating Divali here in Trinidad. I loved the way the flame danced in the dark and gave off its own vibrant colors.

Another Florida photo taken in the backyard at dawn. You can just see a little tiny bit of yellow poking out from the trees.
Todd B Harrington also wrote an article a while back and included awesome photos that feature dark backgrounds: “What’s in An Image?”.
Do you have some awesome black and white, dark or noir type photography? Would love for you to share. Please nothing too graphic, though!
Sunsets, sunrises and dark subject matter also works! No gratuitous violence. Respect for subject matter matters.
