Obsidian Excalidraw: Embed Drawings into your Notes

Have you ever wanted to embed beautiful drawings into your notes easily? If you don’t know it yet, there’s an Obsidian Excalidraw plugin allowing you to embed Excalidraw drawings into your notes.
This will be a quick story, I’ll just share this plugin which is one of my favorites!
Installation
Just go into the community plugins section and look for Excalidraw. It’s one of the most downloaded plugins, you should find it easily!
Then you can just install it and enable it.
Your First Drawing
You have many ways to create a drawing. You can create it without embedding it in a note, or create it within a note directly.
Let’s start with creating a drawing and embedding it directly. You can open the command panel and select one of the commands to create a drawing and embedding it. Just search for commands starting with “Excalidraw”.

You can now try the Excalidraw tools, it’s very intuitive and easy to use!

Now you can close Excalidraw and get back to your note. Your drawing should be embedded correctly!
Plugin Settings
A few settings are important to know:
- Excalidraw folder: your new drawings will be created in this folder. In my vault, I’ve create a folder to store only Excalidraw drawings, and you should do the same to keep things organized!
- Use Excalidraw folder when embedding…: if enabled, all your Excalidraw drawings will always go to the Excalidraw folder. I’ve enabled it.
- Filename prefix/date: you can customize these things as you want to identify more easily your Excalidraw drawings in your vault.
The other settings are not really important. For me, I’ve kept most of the settings to their default values, I don’t want to make things complex.
Final Note
Well, there’s nothing much to say about this plugin. I just wanted to introduce it to you as it is one of my favourite plugins, but also one that can be very important depending on your workflow.
I use it a lot to draw charts, flow-charts, figures, etc…
Tell me in the comments how you plan to use Excalidraw!
