Now Oklahoma, the Lack of Gun Laws Is the Problem
How so many innocent people are dying from guns in the wrong hands.
How many must die before America wake up to the reality that guns are the problem and getting in the hands of the wrong person has caused so much innocent blood to be shed and is still being shed across the nation?
In less than a month or so, there have been twenty mass shootings of innocent people, namely Buffalo grocery store, an Orange County church, Uvalde’s Robb Elementary school in Texas, an Oklahoma outdoor festival, and now Tulsa, Oklahoma medical facility. These are the ones that found their way to the news media.
In the midst of all this bloodshed, the people who can affect new gun laws are looking the other way, riding out the protest to avoid doing anything and back to business as usual.
In Taft, Oklahoma one person was killed, a 39-year-old lady and seven injured at an outdoor festival, ages 9 to 56. A day of fun started out as the best thing in a while for this small town as Covid has changed all lives around the world. Another mass shooting has come to their doorstep.
Most of the mass killings are carried out by young men between 18 to late twenties. The Oklahoma shooter, Skyler Buckner, a 26-year-old man now in custody after an arrest warrant was issued, turned himself in to the sheriff’s office.
Even though seven others were injured does not lessen the crime any more than the lady who was murdered. The news of their survival is vital but the crime is not less severe and should not be treated as such.
According to some witnesses an argument preceded the shooting that happened after midnight. Gunfire was popping all over as the people scrambled and took cover where they could find it except for the one murdered and the seven wounded by Buckner.
This outdoor festival brought about 1,500 visitors to a small town of a few hundred people. What was supposed to be a celebratory Memorial Day event honoring all military servicemen turned into an ugly and tragic scene as a gunman chose to deal with an issue with a gun, killing one and wounding seven others. Now, another town is devastated all because a gun landed in the hand of someone who is incapable of having one. Another town is now devastated and marred by a shooter killing an innocent lady and seven others injured.
This weekend was Oklahoma, where next? Politicians have got to wake up or all voters need to wake up and realize these killings could have landed at their back door or in their very own living room. The time has passed for all voters who have a conscience and compassion for the many who have lost loved ones to senseless violence need to stand up and make their vote count against gun violence and for new gun laws. If not now, when?
Family, friends, classmates, and associates need to wake up when red flags are staring in their faces and not wait until all hell breaks loose. Social media is easy to spot red flags as many like to track their intentions. If not sure, then notify authorities just in case. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
The Texas shooter shot his grandmother in the face before taking her truck and crashing it near the Robb Elementary school. Ironically, the grandfather said he saw no signs of ill behavior in his grandson as his classmates touted he was like a bully at school during his time in school. The Texas shooter had not attended school in a year but the grandfather saw nothing wrong with him. This was a big red flag. Society cannot keep looking the other way even if it is family. To do so, will cause innocent blood to be shed.
Money, politics, and the lust for power have gotten ugly to the nth degree and there seems to be no solution in sight. The people need to take back their power from the hands that are abusing it, destroying society, and perpetuating unbelievable ills affecting all communities. Mass shootings have been going on far too long.
Per the Associated Press, there have been 22 mass shootings, 374 people killed: Uvalde, May 24: 21 dead, Buffalo, May 14: 10 dead, San Jose, May 26, 2021: Nine dead, Boulder, Colo., March 22, 2021: 10 dead, Atlanta, March 16, 2021: Eight dead, Midland, Texas, Aug. 31, 2019: Seven dead, Dayton, Ohio, Aug. 4, 2019: Nine dead, El Paso, Aug. 3, 2019: 23 dead, Virginia Beach, Va., May 31, 2019: 12 dead, Thousand Oaks, Nov. 7, 2018: 12 dead, Pittsburgh, Oct. 27, 2018: 11 dead, Santa Fe, Texas, May 18, 2018: 10 dead, Parkland, Fla., Feb. 14, 2018: 17 dead, Sutherland Springs, Texas, Nov. 5, 2017: 25 dead, Las Vegas, Oct. 1, 2017: 58 dead, Orlando, Fla., June 12, 2016: 49 dead, San Bernardino, Dec. 2, 2015: 14 dead, Roseburg, Ore., Oct. 1, 2015: 10 dead, Charleston, S.C., June 17, 2015: Nine dead, Washington, Sept. 16, 2013: 12 dead, Newtown, Conn., Dec. 14, 2012: 26 dead, Aurora, Colo., July 20, 2012: 12 dead, etc.
In conclusion, how many lives must be affected or destroyed because politicians choose not to do the right thing by issuing more gun control laws for guns like an AR15 that shoots like a machine gun? The AR15 gun is known to rift its victim’s organs apart and render the victim beyond recognition.
At the end of the day, everyone will die and a legacy of “good ridden” may be the epitaph for so many of these politicians who stood by and did nothing as so many died by guns they refused to outlaw or issue gun control laws for. At the end of the day, life is all about the choices we make.
