Compassion can work for everyone and at any time. Who deserves it, and when can compassion be denied or a necessity?

November Prompt #3:

Compassion: What it's and isn't. Compassion can work for everyone and at any time. Who deserves it, and when can compassion be denied or a necessity?

  • Share and inspire yourself and your readers with any experience you have had or observed and how compassion benefits you and others.
  • How do people practice or not practice compassion in today's world?

The other day, I attended a conference call, and a side talk was on compassion. It was an excellent topic many people cared about and were excited to discuss. Why? Because most people I know like to parade themselves as compassionate warriors.

It's true; many people are compassionate. Look around and pay attention — soup kitchen, food party, protest against or for the never-ending war, etc.

On a personal note

My thoughts dug deeper, and I questioned, "How do I show compassion?" One of the members lectured, "You need self-compassion." Another lovely member added, "Self-compassion is where to start."

The two members were right. Self-compassion is the key if you want to keep your beautiful life going.

Now, how can I offer compassion in today's world? And I reflected on how I can offer compassion to anyone who needs it.

Privately, I questioned my thought:

  1. Is self-compassion my truth?
  2. Why do I offer compassion to my sister, not my ex, who is in the same situation?
  3. Would I offer compassion to the most hated politician in the US if they need it?
  4. What about compassion for Hamas and Benjamin Netanyahu if they need help?
  5. How would I offer compassion (action) after empathy (feeling) to my ex-spouse who cheated on me and married my bridesmaid?

Then, I recalled how my former client, Nike, offered me mercy I didn’t deserve.

Nike’s story continues next time.

  1. Is it easier to offer compassion to people we know or famous people?
  2. When does compassion become a buzzword and tricky to provide to others who don't deserve it or people we don’t like?
  3. Can compassion work in an unexpected place and from anyone at any time?

Join the prompt and share your view:

  • Share and inspire yourself and your readers with any experience you have had or observed and how compassion benefits you and others.
  • How do you practice or not practice compassion in today’s world?
  • Feel free to write the prompt from another angle and publish it in your blog. You must tag this story.

Compassion can work for everyone at any time. Who deserves compassion, and when can compassion be denied or a necessity? Join the conversation.

Help yourself grow.
