Non-Boring Date Ideas
Here are 5+ creative date ideas (tested) for your next date!
Are you looking for some enjoyable date ideas that are not a classic stay-at-home movie night or going out for dinner?
Whether it’s a first date or the 1000th, here are 5+ exciting date ideas:
1. Make art together
If you like being creative and using your hands, this is the perfect date to spend time and create something together!
At the beginning of this year, I tried this with my boyfriend: for Christmas, he had gotten me a set of air-drying clay, paint, and supplies for an art date!
One evening, we prepared everything for our artsy date: making sure to cover the table in newspapers, and getting out all supplies. The clay that we used dries without having to burn it in a special oven at over 1000°C. You can get it in many craft stores or online!
We got 2,5kg, which was definitely enough for both of us.
Here is the link to the one we got: https://amzn.to/3T7yCQQ

We didn’t have a pottery wheel, but it works great too by simply molding the clay with your hands!
You have the freedom to make anything you want to! For example, mugs (we made tea mugs with lids), plates, bowls, jewelry stands, and the list goes on!
After molding a specific shape and letting it dry, you can paint your artwork to your liking!
You could also sign up for a pottery class. Or if you like the painting part more, there are many stores that offer the opportunity to paint pottery. Thereby, you won’t have to prepare all the materials and can go spontaneously for a pottery painting night out :)
If you aren’t that much into pottery, here are some more ideas to make art together:
- Get two canvases and paint! Who knows, maybe you will create the next artwork hanging on the walls yourself!
- Upcycle clothes that you don’t wear anymore — using textile color, scissors, needle & thread.
- Teach each other a skill e.g. if one of you can knit, try it out together! Or watch YouTube videos to learn a new skill together!
2. Try a new sport together
You could try something completely new that neither of you has done before — here are some ideas:
- Couple’s yoga
- Dance class
- Bouldering
- Paintball
- Fencing
Or, you could try out a sport that your significant other likes, which you haven’t really tried yet.
For example, my boyfriend taught me kickboxing and how to lift weights. Even though I was starting out with around 0.5kg weights, it was a fun activity to do together!
Take it to the next level by taking part in a sports event!
I love playing basketball… and my boyfriend doesn’t. One afternoon, we decided to go outside to play basketball. I taught him some tricks and he liked it a lot!
In December, we even took part in a basketball tournament together! And it was so much fun!
This is not only a great date idea, but could also open the doors to discovering new hobbies!
3. Go out into nature
When the weather is nice, it’s perfect to go outside, get some fresh air, and be out in nature.
Here are some ideas to spice it up:
- Picnic in the park => BUT before that, you each pick up two things that the other person likes to eat/drink!
- Bike ride => find some spots with a nice view to stop at and bring along snacks & speakers (we did this as one of our very first dates, along a canal, and it was wonderful!)
- Hiking => chose a place neither of you has ever been to and go for a day trip in the wild!
4. Relax together in the spa
Life can be stressful and challenging.
In a relationship, both of you will have your own stress factors, whether it’s at work, studies, personal life, etc….
So why not have a relaxing day in the sauna together?
Of course, only if you like to go to the spa / sauna. Or if you haven’t tried it out yet!
This is perfect to get your mind off daily to-do lists and to reduce stress.
A perfect date to relax!
We absolutely love going to the spa. Although we don’t go very often (as students we have a limited budget), it’s a special date every time we do go.
5. Go for a weekend trip
If both of you have the time, plan a short trip, maybe a road trip to a close city that you both haven’t been to — or a special place you both know.
Sing your hearts out to songs in the car and explore new places!
In our long-distance relationship, we often visit each other (click here to read: long-distance relationship tips), but last winter, for example, we decided to spend two days in a city between our study places, to which we both hadn’t been to! And it was delightful exploring a new city together!
You could also choose a place and search for a specialty in that specific area: is the place famous for a certain dish? Are there frequent hot air balloon rides you could go on?
Hopefully these ideas gave you a bit of inspiration for your next dates.
Be sure to have a fun and memorable time, and don’t be scared to try something completely new together!
