Summary

Marla Bishop reflects on overcoming procrastination and embracing change through a poem that celebrates the completion of the first act of her novel, inspired by IdeaStream No.101.

Abstract

The web content presents a reflective and celebratory poem by Marla Bishop titled "No Longer Lollygag," which encapsulates her joy and anticipation upon finishing the first act of her novel. The poem is rich with vivid imagery and uncommon words, each conveying a specific emotion or concept, such as 'nikhedonia' for the feeling of anticipated success and 'petrichor' for the scent of rain after a dry spell. Bishop uses these terms to illustrate her transition from a state of inactivity and indecision, symbolized by 'lollygag,' to one of productivity and self-actualization, where she becomes the 'philodox'

No Longer Lollygag

A poem

I feel a frisson of excitement as

nikhedonia overwhelms

the retreat of the whiffler,

Inhaling a glorious petrichor

what a change from the abomasum

which too often I bibble

Yes, I’ll pay the gabelle

grateful no longer to be

lollygag and free at last

to discard my dowlas

to be the philodox

I was born to be

Poem inspired by finishing the first act of my novel, and IdeaStream No.101?
