Abstract

The poem "night walking" describes an individual's experience with sleeplessness that prompts them to embark on a walk in the stillness of the night. The walker is drawn to the outdoors by the vibrancy of the night, which is alive and energized despite the cold and quiet. it’s 3 am and I’m awake sleep isn’t coming so I get out of bed put on my coat and step outside into the cold and quiet night

everyone sleeps but me and the night I follow my feet across the street down the path to the river frozen over iced but still alive vibrant energized it flows in trickles

the moon is full stars shine bright I feel alive awake thirsty for knowledge of the secrets of the night

what is that sound? I follow it sound of the owl smell of pine feel of dry leaves beneath my feet

I walk for hours that turn into days until I find a rock or rather a rock finds me and beckons me to lie down for a rest

now I’m suddenly tired so I close my eyes and sleep deeply soundly filled with dreams until I feel the warmth of the sun warming my face

I open my eyes and I’m in my bed thinking I had dreamed of my night stroll until I see my boots covered in mud oh and my hair matted with leaves

and my heart filled with secrets secrets of the river secrets of the night
