It’s a new year and whether you write for fun or in the hopes of making it your career, no doubt you will have made some resolutions, set some goals and laid down your intentions for your creative life in 2023. If being published more and reaching a wider audience is high on that list, and Medium is one of your chosen platforms then I hope The Honest Perspective can become an outlet for you.

We aim to share the work and experiences of a wide range of styles of writer as long as you all have one thing in common… the desire to look through life with the lens of truth and share what you see with others.

Personal essays, articles, and opinion pieces all have the ability to act as a catalyst for the reader.

Your words have the potential to present alternative viewpoints, teach without having to share the heartache of mistakes and challenge beliefs.

The power of the pen is mighty, and The Honest Perspective encourages you to wield yours and start some inspiring conversations.

Each week I will offer you a prompt. Be it a question or an idea to ruminate on, there will be no ‘right’ answer, just your perspective. You can respond to any prompt at any time, just follow where the muse takes you.

You will still need to be added to this publication as a new writer and to do that all you need to do is leave me a comment with something along the lines of, “Please add me as a writer I’d like to contribute” and leave your Medium @username.

The most important thing to remember is that you don’t need to have a piece ready to submit to become an HP writer. It can be daunting when you first start on this platform to claim that title for yourself and put yourself out there but we’re not looking for a Pulitzer Prize winning article, we are looking for ideas and perspectives that make us think, and that is definitely something you offer.

We will be having a poetry focus one week of each month, but you are welcome to share your thoughts in any style that appeals to you so get submitting.

I would also like to encourage you to be a part of the conversation. Read other people’s work and comment. Be respectful at all times but question things, voice your own opinion and let’s start talking. I can’t wait to see where 2023 will take us!

I will also be starting a monthly reader’s challenge where I invite you to share with our community the book that has most challenged your perspective during the month. It might be a fictional story that prompted you to look at things differently or gave you an unexpected perspective on something. It might be a biography or a work on non-fiction that taught you something or flipped the script on an idea or belief you’ve been carrying around. Tell us about it and invite others to start a conversation about it with you.

The aim for The Honest Perspective is to be a catalyst for dialogue, both internal and with the wider community. We all love reading the work of others and writing our own, but our conversations are the places change can happen.
