How to Write for the Honest Perspective
Guidelines and how to submit your work

About The Honest Perspective
At this publication, we are interested in hearing your perspective on the things that matter most to you. Rather than preach your opinions, share your story and personal experience. By doing this we not only offer genuine insight to others, but we also empower ourselves.
We are open to hearing your thoughts on a wide range of topics…
1. Family life in all its messy wonder.
2. Relationships, be they romantic or platonic.
3. All aspects of the feminine experience.
4. Creativity.
5. Race, politics, culture and society, and all aspects of daily life that are impacting you.
We welcome both poetry and prose, so follow your creative inspiration.
How to become a writer for this publication
If you would like to be a contributor for The Honest Perspective, just drop a response below with the words “Please add me as a writer I’d like to contribute” and leave your Medium @username. You should be added within 48 hours.
Once you have been accepted as a writer, you can add your Medium drafts to our publication and we will publish them for you, pending any changes you need to make or whether your piece is a fit for The Honest Perspective.
How to Submit Your Work
We only accept original and unpublished submissions. You may republish to your personal blog or other non-Medium publication after a month but will need to state that the piece was first published on The Honest Perspective.
Only one article per day/per contributor is accepted, and please make sure your private notes are open, so we can communicate if there are any issues to resolve.
All submissions must be ‘metered’ or locked content. By placing your piece behind Medium’s paywall you create the potential to earn money for your hard work through Medium’s Partner Program.
Formatting
1. Titles and Subtitles
Have a clear and descriptive title and subtitle at the top of the article. Use title case for the titles and sentence case for the subtitle. See the attached article on tips for new writers if you need help with this.
2. Pictures
Take some time to find a good picture to support your work. Where the eye goes the attention follows, and nowhere is that more clear than here. Use royalty-free images like those from Unsplash, or Pixabay, etc.
If you do want to source images elsewhere, please ensure they are high-resolution ones and always remember to credit the original source and where you got the image from.
All images should be cropped to horizontal or landscape size.
3. Tagging
One of your tags needs to be taken from the list below so it will appear on the correct page of our publication.
Life
Family
Womanhood
Poetry
Creativity
Dependent on your piece other good tags might be…
Life-lessons, spirituality, mindfulness Self, relationships, parenting Creativity, writing, productivity
If your piece is in response to the bi-weekly prompt, please include the tag Prompt.
4. Article Length
We would like you to keep the maximum length for an article below a 15-minute read. This is because most readers on Medium do not tend to spend more than 5–10 minutes reading an article.
We expect that you will submit well-written articles with limited spelling mistakes and grammatical errors. It’s easy to miss things so we recommend using Grammarly or a friendly pair of eyes to look over work before you hit the send button.
Please allow up to 48 hours for your draft to be published, pending any changes an editor asks you to make. If any changes need to be made to your draft, we will leave a private note to explain.
Once your stories have been published you retain ownership over them. You may remove stories at any time, however, writers who habitually remove stories will lose their writer status.
5. Poetry Spacing
If you hold Shift while hitting Enter, you can get single spacing for poetry which makes for a much better reading experience.
Most Important!
Get lost in the process, and be passionate about what you have to say.
Happy writing & reading!
