Summary

The website content discusses a proposed feature for Medium that would display live earnings of authors to promote transparency and combat misinformation about income on the platform.

Abstract

The article introduces a concept for a new Medium feature called "Live Earnings," which aims to address the pervasive issue of misleading claims about earnings on the platform. The author expresses frustration with the current state of discourse, where writers often boast about their income without concrete evidence, leading to skepticism and a proliferation of unverifiable claims. The proposed solution is to integrate a real-time earnings display into authors' profiles, allowing readers to see actual earnings and potentially reducing the number of exaggerated or false assertions. The article humorously suggests that this feature could also include interactive elements like graffiti to make the platform more engaging and inclusive.

  • The article suggests that the introduction of live earnings could foster a more honest and fun environment on Medium.
  • The author is in favor of adding a "total earnings" option and interactive features like graffiti to increase platform engagement and inclusivity.

New Medium Features

New Medium Feature #1: Live Earnings!

Let’s cut out the bullshit

I’m bored shitless by this endless talk of how Followers, Claps and Comments affects your earnings.

How some guy has only 3 Followers but earns $10k a week. Or how another jerk publishes only once a month, yet runs a Ferrari.

Then there are the high-productivity nerds who churn out a couple of pieces a day and claim to be millionaires.

The nomads who sneak a piece in now and then, say how rich they are, but are really living off boiled sweets and opium in a tin shack in Laos.

Or the moaners who say they used to earn $10k a month but now only earn $9,990. Or the morons who don’t write a thing and somehow have a million followers!!

Well I’ve got a solution for all of these bullshitters.

But how about this instead

You could even rub it in

Then we wouldn’t have liars like this

And more people like this

You could even go for a total earnings option to weed out the frauds

Or introduce a graffiti feature

Let everyone join in

Make it inclusive!

What do you think?

I’m game.

I think this would definitely improve relations on the platform, and would make it more fun.
