New Conservative Majority Can Reverse Ultraliberal Rulings on Guns
Using Roe-v-Wade logic, there is no constitutional right to own automatic weapons
Synopsis
The Supreme Court’s new conservative majority has set a precedent by going back more than 200 years to support their decision on Roe-v-Wade. Using that precedent, they can now reverse the ultraliberal interpretation of the Second Amendment.
Proposed Action
The current state is that anybody, no matter their mental stability or skill, can own any firearm, from a simple hunting rifle to military-grade weapons. They cite the Second Amendment to justify their supposed rights.
Second Amendment: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
The amendment explicitly states that members of a well-regulated Militia shall not have their rights impaired since most provided their own weapons at that time. It does not mention anybody else!
To be fair though, many had rifles to hunt for food. To stay at the same level, everyone should still have a right to single-shot rifles that could be used for hunting. Bolt-action rifles would be similar and still use current technology.
As for automatic weapons, those are military grade and owners should be active members of a state or local militia. This means attending periodic drills and meetings, not just being on a computer list.
Anybody not in such a militia does not have a right to bear arms under the Second Amendment. Especially machine guns mounted on vehicles like the one I saw on our square last week.
The current group of conservative justices now have a chance to reverse all of the liberal rulings granting such rights, same as they did with Roe-v-Wade.
Failure to go back 200+ years and use the militia rule to limit who can carry military-style weapons would show that they are just a bunch of hypocrites.
They should reverse the prior rulings to be consistent. I wouldn’t want to think that the Supreme Court justices were biased hypocrites.
People who were thrilled that Roe-v-Wade was overturned should be overjoyed when they enforce the Second Amendment and put military-level weapons solely in the hands of the militia.
