Navigating Life’s Emotional Landscape.
The Journey of Life February Prompt
“The truth is you don’t know what is going to happen tomorrow. Life is a crazy ride, and nothing is guaranteed”.- Eminen
Life is a crazy ride. The journey is filled with heartaches, happiness, joy, challenges, surprises and hardships that ultimately lead us to our purpose in life. But it is never a bed of roses.
After a long time, I watched a fantastic Hindi movie, “Uunchai”. Uunchai, in English, means altitude.
It is an excellent story concept and motivational for those like me who love to travel and be in nature.
It provides insights into how individuals experience and cope with emotions.
The movie is quite distinct and different from regular masala movies. It left me with a sense of happiness and an inner resolve to achieve more by pushing boundaries.
It is a story about three friends in their seventies who embark on a journey to Everest base camp to fulfil their deceased friend’s wishes.
The story travels through multiple human emotions, varying from love, loss, anger, convictions, sorrow, self-belief and surprises. Through all the hardships that the trio face, they continue their journey.
They face emotional challenges while navigating the hilly terrain and grapple with the physical and mental strain of climbing the Himalayan foothills of Nepal. They manage and express these emotions in different ways.
While some use humour to cope with stress and fear of the climb, others rely on a more stoic approach.
It teaches us a vital lesson. We can overcome even the hardest and biggest obstacles in life if we remain strong. There is nothing wrong with expressing our emotions.
Being in charge of our emotions
Emotions are an integral part of human beings and have an essential function. Understanding our emotions, we can learn about our needs and beliefs, which sometimes help us make important decisions. Suppressing emotions can lead to negative consequences like depression, anxiety and stress.
My personal experience is that I feel stress building up whenever I try to suppress my anger. I have learned to regulate my anger, especially in a professional setting or a difficult situation where staying calm helps me find a solution. I count ten before I react. Counting ten gives me time to think and then respond. I let people know about my emotion.
Learning mindfulness practice has helped me manage and process my emotions healthily without getting stressed.
Emotions can help us connect with others at a deeper level. And this I experienced during my career when I worked with team members. Feeling joy and excitement with others creates a sense of shared experience. It helps in building trust and relationships with the team.
Similarly, feeling grief and sadness with others can bring us closer through mutual support.
Even in the film “Uunchai”, the characters support and encourage each other through the journey’s ups and downs, highlighting the importance of emotional connection in dealing with the situation.
Wrapping up
Emotions teach us a great deal about ourselves.
Emotions provide us with information about our needs and values. It helps in decision-making and can sometimes act as a powerful motivator to make changes, can help us cope with difficult situations and help us connect with others at a deeper level.
“I don’t want to be at the mercy of my emotions. I want to use them, to enjoy them, and to dominate them.”- Oscar Wilde
