Abstract

The author, Dr. Preeti Singh, recounts a personal experience of a sudden and violent squall in Delhi, which disrupted the daily routine and caused significant damage. This event, which occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic, highlights the role nature plays in providing solace and balance to humans. The storm, described as nature's anger, is seen as a response to humanity's disregard for the environment, exemplified by climate change and pollution. The article underscores the necessity of reconnecting with nature, not just to appreciate its beauty but to understand its messages and to live in harmony with it, thereby avoiding its wrath. The author suggests that by embracing nature and becoming a partner with planet Earth, humans can enjoy its gifts rather than face its destructive power.

Nature wants us to reconnect with it.

How many of us receive benefits from nature, enjoy it and forget about it? Do we feel part of nature and reconnect with it?

During covid-19 the saving grace for many of us was to receive peace from nature. I remember I used to hug the trees and enjoy the plants and feel happy in nature. It was our only friend when we lived in solitary quietness.

It gave us balance and we were able to bear spending time with ourselves.

The picture above tells the story of what happened yesterday in Delhi the capital city of India.

I was sitting in my home office and thinking that I should go to the market across the road from where I live. It was a hot day and I could not make up my mind as to whether I should go immediately or wait for the day to cool a little.

I suddenly heard a loud sound. I looked out of the window and I saw that the day and the bright sun had gone and it had become pitch dark. What is this I thought?

I went to the verandah and it was not an ordinary day. The winds were moving at a fast pace. This was a squall and I read in the newspaper this morning that it was very violent.

It became pitch dark and there was thunder and rain. The loud sound of the clouds and lightning frightened children around and I heard some crying sounds also.

Then I saw a child’s trampoline fall from the third floor of a building with a thud to the ground.

I looked around and saw that no one was hurt as no one was outside but the trampoline was crushed completely.

Flower pots were flying and some of my plants tilted away and almost fell down. Two chairs lying on my verandah moved and reached near the wall. Fortunately, they did not fall from the first floor.

The windows started rattling and making a terrible sound. Some doors flew out of the hinges.

Then I saw a big tree falling in front of my eyes.

This mayhem lasted for one hour with heavy rain, lightning, thunder, and wind. Then it started abating and slowly things were returning to normal. Then I went outside and saw many people around had come to assess the damage around.

During the storm, there was no sound of the birds even. It was all quiet and it was only nature’s anger that could be seen.

We saw a building damaged and a car buried under the debris. Some doors of this building and one part of the roof fell down.

This was an angry storm that frightened people.

This was nature’s method to bring out people to think of climate change.

We had inflicted a lot of pain on nature and now nature is angry and wants us to reconnect with it.

Lessons from nature

  • Nature is angry that people have stopped bothering about it.
  • A great lesson for people to surrender and be part of nature and enjoy outside.
  • Nature does not like the debris that we have thrown at it and it has returned the favor by throwing it back at us.
  • If we do not listen to it, then it has different ways of showing us that it can be good to us and show us the stars, moon, the beautiful sunrise, and sunsets that we enjoy. It can also destroy us.

Recommendations

  • Enjoy the beauty of nature by opening up and enjoying the child within you.
  • Enjoy peace and calm of the beauty of the trees, flowers, and the birds, bees, squirrels, and butterflies around that give us pleasure.
  • Do not destroy nature. Instead reconnect with it and play around. Let nature be your partner and let us not work against each other.

To wrap up

Nature is beautiful. Admire it, love it, and look at it with gratitude. The world is a beautiful place with rivers, mountains, the sky, and the earth.

Planet earth will cry if you do not make it a partner and instead tread on it and tear it to become violent with us.

If we want to have a peaceful life and wellness of mind and body

Let planet earth be our partner to help us to receive its gifts of love and not receive its anger.
